| Live Fan Mock Draft II | (06/23/2009) |
| 12:00 | Who will the Pacers pick Thursday night?Ty Lawson Brandon Jennings Eric Maynor Gerald Henderson DeJuan Blair Tyler Hansbrough |
| 12:02 | | To keep the draft moving along, we will not allow chatter after every pick. We will break after every 10 picks for 5-10 minutes of general discussion. |
|
| 12:04 | | OK, WE'RE READY TO START. Please wait until you see your team's logo and pick appear before submitting your pick. |
|
| 12:05 | |
| 12:06 | | Mehrdad is on the clock. |
|
| 12:06 | [Comment From Mehrdad] The Clippers select Blake Griffin. He'll give us a big man presence that we can build with for the next several years. |
| 12:06 | |
| 12:07 | [Comment From Eamer] With the #2 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft the Memphis Grizzlies pick Hasheem Thabeet. Thabeet's potential is endless and with Ricky Rubio obviously not wanting to come to Memphis, the Grizzlies are happy to add the 7'3" bigman to their roster. |
| 12:07 | |
| 12:09 | [Comment From Mehrdad] The Oklahoma City Thunder select Ricky Rubio. We are intriuged by the young man's playmaking ability and believe he'll be an excellent point guard. We would be open to trading this pick to any interested teams. |
| 12:09 | |
| 12:09 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas, TX)] With the 4th pick the Sacramento Kings will select Tyreke Evans. They like his size and his ability to get to the basket. |
| 12:09 | |
| 12:10 | [Comment From Josiah] The #5 pick by the Washington Wizards goes to Demar DeRozan. I selected DeRozan at this spot for the Wizards for 2 reasons stemming from one cause. The cause being the rumors of Washington looking to trade out. DeRozan athletic ability is going to fit nicely on any squad in the league. If Washington can't get some of the teams drafting later that really like this guy to make a trade, then I see nothing better than keeping this guy around as the consolation prize. He is the best all around athlete in the draft in my opinion. |
| 12:10 | |
| 12:11 | [Comment From Jeremy] with the 6th pick in the 2009 nba draft the Minnesota Timberwolves select Jonny Flynn. the wolves really need help at the point and Flynn would be a good fit. |
| 12:11 | |
| 12:12 | | With Harden and Hill still on the board, Nellie's very happy. |
|
| 12:13 | | Finch is on the clock. |
|
| 12:14 | [Comment From Finch] With the 7th pick in this years draft the Warrior select Jordan Hill Big strong guy who can run the floor |
| 12:14 | |
| 12:15 | | And in the role of Donnie Walsh ... Austin's now on the clock with a tough decision to make. Go with who the Knicks expected to be there, or grab the slider? |
|
| 12:15 | [Comment From Austin] With the 8th pick in the NBA Draft the New York Knicks select PG Jrue Holiday. Holiday is a physical player with the ability to get to the basket, shoot and play defense. He's got tremendous upside. He'd be a great contributor if the Knicks grab Lebron next off-season. Brandon Jennings and James Harden were of interest as well. |
| 12:15 | |
| 12:15 | | So how Harden knows how Paul Pierce felt. Will Kareem end his slide? |
|
| 12:17 | [Comment From Kareem] With the 9th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors select Stephen Curry out of Davidson. He is an athletic two-guard which they definitely need and he can also play at the point guard position. |
| 12:17 | |
| 12:18 | | I've suspected Harden was a soft top-five projection. You guys are confirming it for me. Mike Pirtle's on the clock and Harden can't possibly slide more, can he? |
|
| 12:18 | [Comment From Mike Pirtle] With the 10th pick in the 2009 NBA draft the Milwaukee Bucks select DeJuan Blair out of Pittsburgh. We believe he is a great fit on our team and even though he is a little short we think his wingspan will help Andrew Bogut tremendously down low. |
| 12:18 | | BREAK TIME ... general discussion. Let's hear what you think. |
|
| 12:19 | [Comment From Shawn Rodgers] WOW, surprised by some of these picks. |
| 12:19 | [Comment From Jeremy] No way harden slides this far! |
| 12:19 | [Comment From BIGMAN] James Harden is way to good to not be taken yet |
| 12:19 | [Comment From hunter] i was surpirised with derozan at 5 |
| 12:19 | [Comment From Eamer] suprised to see harden down so low. i mocked him at 5 |
| 12:19 | [Comment From Finch] really i was going jennings until i saw Hill was still there |
| 12:19 | [Comment From hunter] i dont think harden is that good |
| 12:19 | [Comment From KC] I DO Not see Harden slipping past 5 I even c him goin 3! Derozan number 5?! |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Peter] DeRozan went too early, It's absolutly dumb that HArden slid this far, and no way Curry gets past the Knicks, I think whoever trades with the Wiz at 5 picks up Curry |
| 12:20 | [Comment From hunter] i was surpirsed with knicks passing on curry |
| 12:20 | [Comment From BIGMAN] I hope DeJuan Blair goes top 10 in the real draft. I don't want the Pacers taking him |
| 12:20 | [Comment From dustin] derozan surprised me too |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Austin] Knicks would probably take him at 8, but Jrue seems like a match made in heaven for NY. |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Finch] Harden is just very smooth |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas, TX)] I think Harden goes to the Thunder. |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Jeremy] If Harden is still available when we pick we should take him |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Jeff] DeRoczan went a little high in my opinion |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Donald] I'd have flipped Holiday and Curry, The Knicks are either doing a killer job of driving up his(Curry) price or really like him. |
| 12:20 | [Comment From Austin] I like Curry, but I don't see him helping the Raptors much for some reason. Then again, they traded sharpshooter Kapono haha. |
| 12:22 | | OK, we all agree Harden shouldn't still be on the board. ... but there's so much uncertainty about this draft -- much moreso than usual -- one or two guys are going to slide Thursday night. So whether it's Harden or not, there's definitely going to be a name sitting in the 10-12 range none of the experts projected. Remember Jerryd Bayless. |
|
| 12:22 | [Comment From Mehrdad] The Thunder would be absolutely interested in seeing if a deal could be worked out between them and the team that ends up picking Harden. They could end up getting a lot in return. |
| 12:22 | [Comment From Josiah] Wiz are looking to trade out. DeRozan could figure into a lot of teams plans giving the Wiz an awful lot of options. |
| 12:22 | [Comment From Austin] I didn't take Curry in New York, because I just don't see the killer instince in him. I don't see that "warrior" in him.. Like he's going to help take the Knicks to the promised land.. He seems too much of a role player to me. |
| 12:22 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas, TX)] Conrad, will the Pacers draft anyone that didn't workout for them? What if someone like Harden or Flynn falls to them in the draft? |
| 12:23 | | Only if someone from the top eight slides. Larry Bird said yesterday everybody in his expected group of four worked out for the Pacers. |
|
| 12:23 | | OK, time to resume. ... |
|
| 12:23 | |
| 12:24 | | Can Chris put an end to Harden's nightmare? |
|
| 12:28 | [Comment From Chris] with the 11th the nets select James Harden. he has too much talent to pass on with the 11th pick. potential, good shooter, can create his own shot well. |
| 12:28 | |
| 12:29 | | Lots of rumors the Bobcats have made a promise to Terrence Williams. Let's see what Cody Guzman thinks. |
|
| 12:30 | [Comment From cody guzman] this is a hard pick but im going to have the bobcats choose earl clark. they need more help with the pf or sf spot |
| 12:31 | |
| 12:31 | | And now, the pick we've all been waiting for ... Hunter gets to see just how difficult this pick will be because there are likely to be so many options available. |
|
| 12:31 | | Check out the poll. The fans are split pretty evenly. |
|
| 12:32 | [Comment From hunter] the Indiana Pacers have selected Gerald Henderson. He is a fantastic shooter and can run the floor well. He seems to be a great fit for the pacers |
| 12:32 | | Reminder, general discussion (including Pacers pick) opens up after pick 20. |
|
| 12:32 | |
| 12:33 | | Suns looking to blow it up and start over? Trading Amare? Shaq? Let's see what Josh has for us. |
|
| 12:35 | [Comment From josh] The suns select Ty Lawson tuff as nails point guard to be the leader in a season or two after nash hangs em up |
| 12:35 | |
| 12:35 | | So now It's Brandon Jennings on the slide. Pistons could use a point guard and are talking trade all over the place. It's nick's call today. |
|
| 12:37 | [Comment From nick] eric maynor they need a scorer for the point gaurd position and eric is the best fit for the pistons |
| 12:37 | |
| 12:38 | | Rumors are the Bulls want to package 16 and 26 to move into the lottery and they're reportedly talking to the Pacers at 13. No trades today, so we'll see what Lesther has in store. |
|
| 12:38 | [Comment From Lesther] #16th Bulls select Terrence Williams. We are shopping Kirk Hinrich and probably Ben Gordon will be gone too, by selecting Williams we are secured with a good replacement that can shoot and defend as well. |
| 12:38 | |
| 12:38 | | Something tells me the Sixers would be thrilled to see Jennings sitting at 17. Is KC? |
|
| 12:39 | [Comment From KC] With the 17th pick the 76ers will select Brandon Jennings out of Italy. However, I do not see him dropping this far the Sixers will gobble him though if he drops in there lap. He will provide a solid back up for Andre Miller. |
| 12:40 | |
| 12:40 | | Oops. That should say 18. My bad. |
|
| 12:40 | [Comment From Jeremy] With the 18th pick in the 2009 nba draft the Minnesota Timberwolves selects B.J. Mullens. the wolves really need a center and mullens has a lot of upside. this is a no-brainer pick. |
| 12:41 | |
| 12:41 | | Omar has the call to see what the Hawks will add. Teague, Daye, Johnson and Hansbrough on the board, among others. |
|
| 12:42 | [Comment From Omar] With the 19th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks select James Johnson. He is a good midrange shooter and can rebound. |
| 12:42 | |
| 12:43 | | Remember, we'll break after this pick for chat. .... Anthony is the Utah GM today. |
|
| 12:43 | [Comment From Anthony] With the #20 pick in the 2009 Draft the Utah Jazz pick Tyler Hansbrough. The Jazz needed a backup at point or some length in the middle since the playoffs showed the lack of second chance points for the Jazz. So my choice was dependent on the best player available at the #20 pick. Discussion time! |
| 12:44 | | I like Henderson for the Pacers. He's got the combination of experience, polish and potential. |
|
| 12:44 | [Comment From KC] What are your thoughts on Austin Daye? Does this remind anyone of DeAndre Jordan just a year ago? |
| 12:45 | | Different kind of player, but I see what you mean. From what I hear, Daye will have to be a 3. |
|
| 12:45 | [Comment From BIGMAN] I don't think Mullens will ever start for an NBA team |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Rich] I don't have much faith in Daye honestly. |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] Austin Daye will be good but he is a project for now. |
| 12:45 | [Comment From tyler hayes] i like henderson for the pacers too |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Julio] If I needed a PG as a GM, then I would definitely trade down as it seems value is going to be there. |
| 12:45 | [Comment From BIGMAN] Henderson is solid, but how many wing players do we need? |
| 12:45 | [Comment From gbeck] yeah but if dunleavy ever gets healthy, how much playing time would henderson get? |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Anthony] I agree we need a wing. I believe we will have a 2nd 1st round pick come draft tme on Thursday. |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Eamer] Happy with Henderson. Teague dropping low now. First Harden, then Jennings, Teague's turn now. Who's next to drop? |
| 12:45 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] I think Eric Maynor is perfect for the Pacers. He has the size, skill and most importantly for Larry Bird the four years of college. |
| 12:46 | [Comment From Chris] we should trade up foa higher pick |
| 12:46 | [Comment From KC] I think the Pacers should have gone big with Hansbrough |
| 12:46 | [Comment From thatcher] i would like to see the pacers swap picks w/ the bulls. give them 13 and like graham and we get 16 and 26 that way we could possibly get jennings and tyelr hansbrough |
| 12:46 | [Comment From Austin] I'll be happy if the Pacers trade with the Bulls to get 16 and 26. If they keep 13... I'd be more excited to see Lawson, Jennings or Hansbrough taken rather than Gerald Henderson. He reminds me too much of a player who will never get past "Role Play" |
| 12:46 | [Comment From BIGMAN] I agree on Maynor |
| 12:46 | [Comment From nick] gerald henderson just isnt someone the pacers need we have d granger a m daniels yes is a fa but with the economy a lot of fa will stay |
| 12:46 | [Comment From Rich] I like Henderson, Blair, Clark, big time PG slider... |
| 12:46 | [Comment From Ruby from Brownsburg] Bruno -- how certain are you that the Pacers will take someone who they worked out in Conseco Fieldhouse? |
| 12:47 | | If the Pacers stay at 13, unless a top-8 guy slides into their lap, they'll pick from their workout group. Keep in mind, of the 42 guys they worked out, only 14 were first-round prospects, so it seems pretty clear they're looking hard at the possibility of moving back for multiple picks. |
|
| 12:47 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] If the Bulls draft Maynor with their first pick, I'm almost certain it means we traded for their two first rounders. |
| 12:47 | [Comment From tyler hayes] who should i pick for the hornets |
| 12:47 | [Comment From Rich] I think the workout language from Bird is posturing |
| 12:47 | [Comment From Anthony] Problem with a Bulls trade is that at #26 I don't see much help at that position in the draft. #16 would be fine though. |
| 12:47 | [Comment From Shawn Rodgers] If the Bulls are offering that deal than I think its a no brainer. Both Teague and Maynor would be available there and possibly Hansborough at 16. |
| 12:48 | [Comment From BIGMAN] What can Gerald Henderson do that Brandon Rush can't? |
| 12:48 | [Comment From KC] I dnt see Earl Clark neing a solid NBA player 12 is to high |
| 12:48 | [Comment From Austin] Hansbrough is perfect in Utah though. Really. That's golden haha. |
| 12:48 | [Comment From hunter] i think pacers might just trade up for a big pick |
| 12:48 | [Comment From Shawn Rodgers] As for this mock draft Henderson is a great pick. Really good perimeter defender and we all know haw badly the Pacers need defense. |
| 12:48 | | OK, we'll have more time to chat after the mock draft is complete. So let's resume. ... |
|
| 12:48 | |
| 12:49 | | Tyler Hayes was asking for help on the Hornets' pick. |
|
| 12:50 | | Summers, Young, Budinger, Collison, Douglas, Mills on the board. And don't forget my super-sleeper, Nando De Colo. |
|
| 12:50 | | As Shawn pointed out to me, Teague and Daye also on the board. |
|
| 12:51 | [Comment From tyler] the hornets select sam jeff teague because the honets need a back up point guard |
| 12:51 | | (Looks like maybe he was going to say Sam Young) |
|
| 12:51 | |
| 12:52 | | gbeck has the call for the Mavs. Will he give Rick Carlisle what he wants? |
|
| 12:54 | [Comment From gbeck] the mavericks pick austin daye with the 22 pick. he has too much talent to pass up at this point in the draft. |
| 12:54 | |
| 12:54 | | The Kings nabbed Tyreke Evans at No. 4. Will Nick from Dallas surprise us again? |
|
| 12:57 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] The Kings select Nick Calathes. He is a combo guard that can play three positions. |
| 12:57 | |
| 12:58 | | Bigman has the call for the Blazers, who also are rumored to be trying to package their pick and a player to move into the lottery. |
|
| 12:58 | [Comment From BIGMAN] The Portland Trail Blazers select Darren Collison. Collison is a quick, savvy point guard who can get our play makers (Roy, Aldridge, Outlaw) better looks. |
| 12:58 | |
| 12:58 | | Mehrdad chose Ricky Rubio for the Thunder at No. 3. Time for his second pick. |
|
| 12:59 | [Comment From Mehrdad] The Oklahoma City Thunder select Chase Budinger with the #25 pick. They could use some floor spacing, and Budinger would provide an outside threat. |
| 12:59 | |
| 1:00 | | At 16, Lesther selected Terrence Williams. What's his call now? Keep in mind, this pick might actually wind up in the Pacers' hands Thursday night. |
|
| 1:01 | [Comment From Lesther] 26th the bulls select, unfortunately Hansbrough was taken=) so we would like to get an international Forward because of Turkuglo's impressive play in finals. We select Omri Casspi. |
| 1:01 | |
| 1:02 | | Eamer went big with Thabeet at No. 2. Lots of options at 27. |
|
| 1:03 | [Comment From Eamer] With the #27 pick Memphis Grizzlie pick Point Guard Toney Douglas. Douglas will be challenging Conley at the point this year. |
| 1:03 | |
| 1:04 | | David Kahn's looking to make a big splash in his first draft as Wolves' GM. Jeremy already has grabbed Jonny Flynn at 6 (passing Harden) and BJ Mullens at 18. What's next? |
|
| 1:04 | [Comment From Jeremy] With the 28th pick in the 2009 nba draft the minnesota timberwolves select Sam Young. Young plays great Defense and the wolves could use a defensive minded foward. |
| 1:05 | |
| 1:05 | | OK, they don't need shooting guard or center. Other than that, Austin's got a free hand. |
|
| 1:06 | [Comment From Austin] Bummer. The Lakers were excited with Omri Casspi and Sam Young still on the board, but that dream finished quick. With the 29th pick in the draft the LA Lakers take PF Gani Lawal. |
| 1:06 | | Oops. Got to make that pick again. Lawal withdrew from the draft. |
|
| 1:09 | | Tick ... tick .... tick .... |
|
| 1:10 | | OK, clock has expired and as commish I'll pick for the Lakers, who take Nando De Colo, a very gifted young French player who at 6-5 could be a perfect backcourt complement to Kobe. |
|
| 1:11 | |
| 1:11 | | And with our final pick. Cody Guzman .... |
|
| 1:11 | [Comment From cody guzman] the cavs will select wayne ellington due the need of a sg and he will bring great shooting to the cavs roster. He might also be traded because of all the trade rumors going around with the cavs. |
| 1:11 | | Chat time ... |
|
| 1:11 | [Comment From KC] I agree BIGMAN going with Collison at 24 not many other people have had that same pick as me. Good call. |
| 1:12 | [Comment From Anthony] Maybe it's just a dream of mine but I would like to see the pacers end up with 3 picks from the draft. I believe a trade (Ford) could grab a pick in the 11-20 range and a swap from #13 to #16 & #26 with the Bulls could give us a solid PG, PF and a swingman. |
| 1:12 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] TRADE NEWS: the Nets and Spurs have agreed in principle to send Richard Jefferson to San Antonio for Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas. |
| 1:12 | [Comment From Eamer] De Colo was a suprisie one. Thought it'd be Summers |
| 1:12 | [Comment From Rich] Do you think we will pick up Demarre Carroll with our 2nd pick? Will he still be around? |
| 1:13 | | Carroll's one of my favorite players in this draft. Somebody's going to be really happy with him in the 2nd round. |
|
| 1:13 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] courtesy of Chade Ford from ESPN. |
| 1:13 | | Nick, good rumor, but did you mean Bucks? |
|
| 1:13 | [Comment From Jeremy] 29 seems a little high for nando de colo. i thought it should have been patty mills |
| 1:13 | [Comment From Ruby from Brownsburg] I like Larry Bird's comment from yesterday's presser regarding his preference of 4-year college students. I just hope we don't end up w/ NC's Psycho T. |
| 1:13 | [Comment From thatcher] so Bruno-- what trade news to you know, and who would be involved in the Bulls trade? |
| 1:15 | | Here are the rumors that could affect the Pacers ... other than the Bulls' deal (16 and 26 to move into the lottery), Houston wants to get into the lottery and is offering Landry for a middle pick and maybe Landry and McGrady for a top-five ... Portland wants to make a move either for DeJuan Blair or possibly even Rubio. ... Anybody else hear anything? |
|
| 1:15 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas,TX)] Oh yes, excuse me I meant the Bucks. |
| 1:15 | [Comment From KC] I think Hansbrough is a good fit in Indy |
| 1:15 | [Comment From hunter] do you think we will move up? if so where to? |
| 1:16 | | Moving up would be too expensive because to acquire a top pick -- Larry says he'd really like No. 5 -- you'd have to absorb a couple of bad contracts from the other team and Pacers aren't in position to do that. |
|
| 1:16 | [Comment From Peter] I'm so very excited about this prospect of trading 13 for the bulls 16 and 26, with 16 we'd have so many options still available such as teague or maynor, but then with 26 Taj Gibson would probably be there who is 1st all time usc block leader and 3rd all time pac10 leader and 3 all time usc rebound leader, and the dude can still score, I'm so excited for that now, i hope I'm not getting my hopes too high for that trade |
| 1:16 | [Comment From Tyler Johnson] we could get blair, then trade for another pick and go get a pg (lawson) |
| 1:16 | [Comment From Peter] i also agree with ruby, I hope we dont get hansbrough, hes just Jeff Foster/Josh McRoberts again |
| 1:16 | [Comment From Lesther] my oh my i love BRandon Rush ,if we'll get Henderson , Brandon might become nervous again and sit in the bench^^ |
| 1:16 | [Comment From coop-a-loop] Ruby -- did you see the post workout video? Psycho T is a national champion and pretty good. |
| 1:16 | [Comment From Anthony] I'm pretty sure T-Will ends up with the Bobcats. |
| 1:17 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas, TX)] They won't get a player they like at 26. |
| 1:17 | | REMINDER: I will be doing a blog on draft day, beginning early afternoon and running through the first round. Check Pacers.com for details. |
|
| 1:17 | [Comment From Eamer] I'm happy with Henderson for the Pacers. Don't particularly like Hnasbrough. |
| 1:17 | [Comment From gbeck] on espn's website there was a live chat with that chad ford guy, and someone asked him what it would take for the pacers to get the #5 pick, and he said all it would take is our first rounder, and jeff foster |
| 1:18 | [Comment From Ruby from Brownsburg] I saw the video. He definitely considers himself impressive. I'm guessing he thinks he's very humble, too. |

| 1:18 | [Comment From Nick (Dallas, TX)] I think we can all agree that Maynor, Lawson, Hansbrough, Henderson and maybe Dejuan Blair is the group Larry mentioned yesterday. |
