Indiana communities can celebrate Black History Month with the Indiana
Pacers, the Indiana Historical Society, the Indianapolis-Marion County
Public Library (IMCPL), and Emmis Communications by participating in the
Black History Challenge, taking place February 1-29, 2008.
Children and families are invited to learn about Indiana's African-American history by participating in the Black History Challenge, a contest that invites participants to investigate famous black Hoosiers and their contributions to society. The exploration of individuals and organizations featured in this year's Challenge highlights Indiana's rich African-American heritage. Since 2001, the Pacers have partnered with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library, Indiana Historical Society and EMMIS Communications to create game cards that participants use to investigate and answer Indiana black history facts. Since its inception, more than 20,000 students and families have participated in the Challenge. Game cards will be available at any Indianapolis Marion County Public Library branch, Indiana History Center and Conseco Fieldhouse. Game Cards can also be found on their respective websites at www.indianahistory.org, www.imcpl.org and www.pacers.com. |

Library (located in the Indiana History Center at 450 W. Ohio St. in
downtown Indianapolis) and IMCPL branches, or via the Internet on the
IHS and IMCPL Web sites.
