Indianapolis, Jan. 30, 2007 -- The Indiana Pacers, in conjunction with the Indiana Historical Society (IHS), the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library (IMCPL) and Emmis Communications, are celebrating Black History Month by sponsoring the Black History Challenge.
Children and families are encouraged to learn about Indiana’s African-American history by participating in this contest where they will investigate and answer questions on Indiana’s Black history facts. The questions are available at indianahistory.org from Feb. 1 – 28, 2007. This marks the first year the Challenge is exclusively online.
The Challenge consists of trivia questions regarding Indiana’s African-American history. Hints to the trivia questions can be found in books and information resources at any IMCPL branch or imcpl.org. Participants may also visit the IHS’s William Henry Smith Memorial Library or indianahistory.org. Clues can also be heard through vignettes recorded by Pacers’ players aired on WIBC 1070-AM and available below.
All participants who complete the Challenge and answer all questions correctly will be entered into a grand prize drawing which includes tickets to an upcoming Pacers game.
The Indiana Black History Challenge is in its seventh season and is part of the Pacers Read to Achieve program presented by Chase.
