Artest Honored by NBA

New York, Nov. 18, 2002 - Indiana’s Ron Artest and Seattle’s Rashard Lewis today were named the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, November 11 through Sunday, November 17.

Artest averaged 20.3 points on .639 shooting (23-36 FGA) with 4.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.00 blocks and 1.67 steals as the Pacers went 3-0 this past week, stretched their winning streak to seven games and now have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 8-1.

Lewis, who scored a career-high 37 points in a 101-95 win at Washington last week, helped lead the Sonics to a 3-0 week and first-place in the Pacific Division averaging 23.0 points on .690 shooting (29-42 FGA) with 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.00 steals.

Here is a closer look at Artest's week:

  • Nov. 12 vs. Cleveland – Posted a game-high 22 points hitting 9-10 FGA (2-2 3PT FGA) and 2-2 FTA. Also had four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal in a 95-75 win over the Cavaliers.
  • Nov. 15 vs. Milwaukee – Scored 22 points, dished out a season-high seven assists, grabbed four rebounds, notched three steals and had two blocks in a 103-100 OT win vs. the Bucks. Scored seven of the Pacers’ 11 points in the extra session including a dramatic three-point play with 13.1 seconds to put Indiana up for good.
  • Nov. 16 at Minnesota – Scored 17 points (8-12 FGA, 1-1 FTA) with six rebounds and four assists as the Pacers extended their winning streak to seven games.

    Here is a closer look at Lewis' week:

  • Nov. 12 at Washington – Scored a career-high 37 points hitting 16-19 FGA (3-4 3PT FGA) as the Sonics defeated the Wizards 101-95 in Washington. Lewis also recorded seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Nov. 15 vs. Sacramento – Scored 16 points (6-9 FGA, 1-1 3PT FGA, 3-3 FTA) with six rebounds, a season-high four steals and three assists in a 111-97 win over the Sacramento Kings in a battle for first-place in the Pacific Division.
  • Nov. 17 at L.A. Clippers – Posted 16 points (7-14 FGA, 2-4 FTA), a team-high 11 rebounds, two assists and one block in the Sonics’ 84-78 victory over the Clippers.
