Fan’s Take: Area 55 Surprises Roy

By Jon Bennett, Season 2 Member of Roy Hibbert’s Area 55 (@JonnyB83)

When the Pacers traded for George Hill, Roy Hibbert asked members of Area 55 to show up at the airport to welcome George back to town since Roy's flight was leaving a couple hours before George arrived. Fast-forward a few months, Roy wrote on Twitter that he was coming back to Indianapolis on Friday or Saturday.
I asked him to let me know. I wanted to get a group together to welcome Roy back "home." I just thought it would be a nice thing to do seeing as how he bought season tickets for me and 54 of my closest friends.
On Friday, Roy tweeted that his flight was going to arrive in Indianapolis at 11pm. In the short time he gave notice we were able to get a small group to show up at the airport on a Friday night at 11pm.
There was myself, Bryon Pumphrey, David Dearing, Bill Manlove, Barb Somes, most impressively Kyle Brumback and his friend drove 2 hours each way to be there.
Not a whole lot of hoopla went on. Plenty of fives were given. It seemed that Roy really appreciated us showing up.  Something that stuck with me that Roy said was that he has been following what we're up to through Twitter and he was really proud of the fact of us getting groups together to go to the charity softball game and Fever games over the summer.
