It’s not very often that someone gets to work professionally for their hometown team.
I, fortunately, get that opportunity.
Born-and raised a Hoosier, I graduated from North Central High School and Indiana University. About two and a half years ago I started my own site, VigilantSports.com, and covered teams across Indiana. I’ve covered many spectacular events including multiple Indianapolis 500s and Big Ten Basketball Tournaments, the NCAA Tournament, Women’s Final Four and WNBA Finals.
I have been around the Fieldhouse and the team for over a decade in different capacities: First as a ball boy for the Fever, then as a ball boy for the Pacers, and finally, as a reporter covering the team for my website, VigilantSports.com. Along the way, I also spent time at 1070 The Fan, WISH-TV, and WTHR where I learned from veterans of the business.
I’m also a big broadcasting guy, with over 200 games to my name on a variety of channels like the Big Ten Network, IU Radio Network, IUHoosiers.com, WIUX and WJEL.
So what can you expect from me here? A lot of everything.
I will be handling the stories before and after every game. In my blog, I’ll break down how the team is playing, what’s working (and not working), and take you inside the locker room for stories on the players that wear the blue and gold. You can also expect some multimedia content like videos, interviews, and live chats.
I’m also an avid user of twitter (@ScottAgness) and that’s where I will post updates, share photos, and interact with you, the fans. If there’s anything you’d like to see or are curious about, ask away.
Along with Mark Montieth, we will bring fresh and unique perspectives to the site to keep you coming back. It’s our goal for Pacers.com to be your go-to source for team news, insight and analysis.
This Pacers team, as you saw last season, is enjoyable to watch and isn’t backing down to any opponent.
Throughout the years I’ve spent at the Fieldhouse, I’ve seen three different coaching staffs and many different rosters up close and, let me assure you, this current group is truly special. They are the best collective bunch in quite a long time—from veteran leaders to hard-working, determined rookies.
Meanwhile, the Pacers had a busy offseason, signing free agents, making a trade, and re-signing Big Roy and Indianapolis-product George Hill. In the front office, Donnie Walsh returned to the franchise, Kevin Pritchard assumed additional responsibility as General Manager, and Coach Frank Vogel and his staff are preparing to embark on their first full season together.
This will be an exciting year to be around the team and I’m thrilled to join Pacers.com. I hope you follow along.
