After sweeping a pair of games against Raptors 905 to open the season, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants returned to the court this past weekend for two more contests.
The Pacers had a great night offensively on Saturday, exploding for a season-high 123 points in a win over the Bucks. But Indiana's D-League affiliate actually outscored them on Saturday night, as the Mad Ants blew out the Delaware 87ers in Fort Wayne, 127-102.
Pacers rookie Rakeem Christmas led the way in Saturday's romp. Christmas, on assignment to Fort Wayne along with Shayne Whittington, scored a season-high 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting.
C.J. Fair, Christmas' former college teammate at Syracuse and a two-time invitee to Pacers' training camp, shared the spotlight on Saturday. Fair added 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals.
Whittington finished with five points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes.
After Saturday's win, the Mad Ants hit the road for the first time all season, traveling to Iowa to take on the Energy, the affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies.
It was a quick turnaround, with a 5 PM tip on Sunday afternoon, and that may have played a factor in this one. The Mad Ants struggled from the field, connecting on just 33 percent of their shots in an 88-77 loss.
Christmas went just 5-for-18 from the floor, but he still managed to grind out a double-double. The 6-9 forward finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, six of them on the offensive glass. He also blocked three shots.
Whittington added six points, five rebounds, and two steals.
The Mad Ants have three games this week. First, head coach Steve Gansey will square off against the team he worked for as an associate head coach last season, as the Mad Ants visit the Canton Charge on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The team then returns home to host the Bakersfield Jam on Friday, Nov. 27 and the Erie Bayhawks on Sunday, Nov. 29.
