Pacers reach out to community for Thanksgiving
Pacers players and staff participated in a variety of Thanksgiving week community outreach events on Monday, No. 19.
At 1:30 p.m., David Harrison was at Crooked Creek Elementary (2150 Kessler Blvd., West Drive, Indianapolis), along with Quinn Buckner, Pacers' mascot Bowser and the Washington Township Fire Department, to help the students donate food raised for the world's largest student-led food drive. This event was part of Pacers Foundation's "Be Charitable" program in which the Foundation partnered with The LEAGUE.
Shawne Williams and Larry Bird handed out Thanksgiving meal supplies to all the families at the Pacers Academy (Union Station, 39 Jackson Place, Suite 500, Indianapolis). Williams purchased all the food and supplies to allow each family to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Williams also invited Pacers Academy faculty and students to be his guests at the Pacers vs. Cleveland game on Sunday, Nov. 25, as a holiday treat and congratulatory gesture for their academic commitment.
Conseco Fieldhouse served as host for the Indiana Pacers Come to Our House Thanksgiving Dinner. More than 550 men, women and children from area downtown missions received a meal, goody bags and mingled with players, staff, Pacers' mascots Boomer and Bowser, Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever and members of the Indiana Pacemates.
Troy Murphy was announced as the Honorary Chair for the 2007 WIBC Salvation Army Radiothon from Dec. 14-16.
