DENVER, June 14, 2012 – Led by 2011-12 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection Kenneth Faried and teammates Jordan Hamilton and Julyan Stone, the Denver Nuggets will open their NBA Summer League schedule on July 14 against the Golden State Warriors.

The Nuggets, who will be coached by longtime assistant Chad Iske, will play five games over a seven-day span in Las Vegas. In addition to the Warriors, Denver will face Dallas, New York, Charlotte and Portland.

WHEAT RIDGE – They came, they cooked, they burned some calories.

Led by NBA All-Rookie First Team selection Kenneth Faried and strength and conditioning coach Steve Hess, the Denver Nuggets helped promote the No Kid Hungry Summer Food Program this week at the Healing Waters Family Center.

Nuggets forwards Wilson Chandler and Jordan Hamilton, point guard Julyan Stone, assistant strength coach Felipe Eichenberger and assistant coaches Ryan Bowen, Jesse Mermuys and Patrick Mutombo also were part of a one-hour fitness clinic for 60 children.

When Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari packed his bags and left Pepsi Center for the summer, he vowed to work hard toward erasing the painful memory of a Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

“That’s motivation for me personally,” he said on May 14. “I didn’t play good, so it’s going to be motivation for me to improve and be ready for those kind of challenges.”

That process is in full swing.

To this day, Nick Van Exel shakes his head at the reputation that preceded him.

Hot-headed, selfish, uncoachable.

“A lot of people have a lot of misconceptions about me,” the former Nuggets point guard said during a visit to Pepsi Center. “I’ve said it from Day 1: I was a different player on the court as I am in my real life. My emotions and competitive spirit came out when I was on the court.”

With the 2011-12 season in the books, Nuggets.com is taking a closer at the team’s primary rotation players and how they fared during a challenging 66-game schedule. Denver assistant coach Chad Iske was kind enough to provide candid assessments, which reflect the views of the Nuggets coaching staff as a whole.

Today’s featured player is shooting guard Arron Afflalo, who overcame a sluggish start to average a career-high 15.2 points in his fifth NBA season. He was the team’s most reliable three-point shooter, hitting .398 of his shots from behind the arc.

The Nuggets are among a record 24 teams that will compete in the 2012 NBA Summer League on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas from July 13-22.

After completing their first NBA season, forwards Kenneth Faried and Jordan Hamilton and point guard Julyan Stone are expected to be on Denver’s summer-league roster that will be led by Nuggets assistant Chad Iske.

“We’ve always had the philosophy that summer is the time to get better,” Iske said. “We have a great group of young guys who have proven that they are willing to put in the work and improve their game.”
