This is Why We Play

By Tim Gelt

While preseason on the floor is used to build team chemistry, learn Coach Malone’s schemes and get the reps in before the regular season begins on October 28th at Houston, preseason off the floor is to connect with Nuggets fans and give back to the community.

Over the past three days, the Denver Nuggets have checked all of those boxes.

For the second-consecutive year, the Nuggets took their show on the road to the Coors Events Center on the campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder on Thursday night.

A great way to connect with Nuggets fans that may not otherwise see the team play gave the Boulder fans something to cheer about with a 112-94 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Joffrey Lauvergne continued his stellar play with 18 points and eight rebounds and Will Barton added 17 points off the bench as the Nuggets used a 26-3 run in the first half to break away.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the recent Nuggets open scrimmage at South High School.

Coming off the trip to CU, the Nuggets moved onto South High School in Denver on Saturday afternoon. This time for an open scrimmage for 1,000 Jr. Nuggets participants from throughout the front-range including metropolitan Denver, Fort Collins, Northglenn, Longmont and Colorado Springs.

The kids cheered on their favorite Nuggets players, which saw the White Team prevail over the Blue Team, but they also saw performances by the Nuggets Dancers, as well as the team’s new Dunk Squad and Drumline.

When the buzzer sounded, the team engaged with fans by throwing Nuggets items into the stands and signing autographs on the court.

Next up for the Nuggets is a game against the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night in the Bay before returning home for their only Pepsi Center game of the preseason vs. the Phoenix Suns on Friday, October 16th.
