Postgame Quotes -- Dec. 21, 2005
George Karl – Nuggets Head Coach
“They made their shots, we didn’t cover tonight. We played with a lack of confidence. We didn’t play smart basketball. I think we gave them ten points by fouling them in the back court. It was disappointing to come home after such a long road trip and come out flat like we did. You would expect us to come out with some energy and it just wasn’t there. I’m tired of excuses. I am not proud of the effort we gave tonight. Our shooting has really been flat. We needed to play a complete game and a focused game and it just didn’t happen.”
Marcus Camby – Nuggets Center
“It’s frustrating. We didn’t come out with intensity and effort. We take pride in being a home court team, but we’ve lost at home lately. We need to regroup at practice tomorrow and get ready for Houston on Friday. I don’t make excuses (first game back at home after a long road trip), they’ve been on the road and have lost three games in a row. Give the Wizards credit.”
Andre Miller – Nuggets Guard
“Not really (first game back at home after a long road trip), we had a couple days to prepare, no excuses. We were just sluggish tonight. (Miller: Double-Double) It doesn’t really mean anything when the team loses. We have to take one game at a time. We have a day to prepare and be ready for Houston on Friday.”
WIZARDS QUOTES
Eddie Jordan – Wizards Head Coach
On the win
"One player said we got the monkey off our back and another player said it was King Kong. It was working on us. We had positive energy and it never wavered. We gutted it out and never gave up. Gilbert Arenas was big. Our starters all had double figures so we shared the basketball. We stayed organized offensively. You have to be able to score. We were more organized down the stretch. In the first half we were careless with the ball. We cant shoot ourselves in the foot with thirteen turnovers in a half. I could tell Kenyon Martin was not a 100%, I can see that. He is a warrior but he can not sustain it right now.”
Gilbert Arenas – Wizard Guard
“I was just hitting shots tonight, and it’s easier to get assists when you’re hitting your shots. Denver’s been on a fourteen day road trip, and it was easier for us to come in here and run with them, and they didn’t have as much of an advantage with the altitude. Denver’s better than what they’re showing right now, due to the players that they have injured right now. Their coach has been suspended for four games and Marcus Camby has missed three games, and Kenyon has missed games. Once they get together, they’ll get back on track because they are so talented.”
Antawn Jamison – Wizards Forward
“It’s been a long one, pretty much the toughest stretch offensively in my career, and that’s saying a lot. I’ve been through a lot and mentally it just wasn’t correct. It was like there was a lid on that basket. My teammates have done a good job on not making it tough on me. The toughest thing for me was to know that I could play better. You know, I can go with not playing well, but most importantly I can’t go without winning basketball games. Tonight just felt good, and the most important thing was just winning.”
