Nuggets Sign Boykins to Contract

DENVER (August 18, 2003) -- The Denver Nuggets have signed free agent guard Earl Boykins to a multi-year contract, General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

“Earl is an exciting player,” said Vandeweghe. “He can really change the tempo of a game. He played a big part in Golden State’s success last season and we’re thrilled to have him in a Nuggets uniform.”

Boykins, 5-5, 133, averaged 8.8 ppg and 3.3 apg – both career highs – in 68 games with Golden State last season. He ranked 10th in the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.03 to 1) and 14th in free-throw percentage (.865). He scored 10 or more points in the fourth quarter of 12 games, in which the Warriors posted a 10-2 record. In addition, he finished seventh in balloting for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award.

Boykins, out of Eastern Michigan '98, has averaged 5.9 ppg and 2.5 apg in 194 games over his five-year NBA career. In addition to Golden State, he has played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland, Orlando and New Jersey.
