Seattle SuperSonics 100, Denver Nuggets 97

NUGGETS QUOTES

George Karl - Denver Nuggets Head Coach
“I thought the personality of tonight’s team was soft defense, not passing and turnovers. I was extremely disappointed early in the game with how Lewis took it to us. I think he had about 13 points in the 1st quarter. Fatigue was defiantly a part of tonight’s game.”

Carmelo Anthony - Nuggets Forward
“Anytime you let a team shoot 67 percent from the field in the first half and 65 percent from three, it’s going to always be a battle. It seemed like they kept it going throughout the whole game, but one thing we didn’t want to do was make it a fourth quarter game and tonight we didn’t have a choice but to do that. We didn’t have it tonight. There were times when we showed some fight and went out there with a lot of energy, and then there were times when we didn’t have any. You can’t have games like that, especially on your home court.”."

Linas Kleiza - Nuggets Forward
On if the team giving you big shots shows that they have confidence in you
They showed a lot of confidence, he (Anthony) made a good play, I just wasn’t able to finish. The shot just didn’t go down. (Was the play drawn up for you?) No, they just clamped down on Melo."

On whether or not this is this typical after a five-game road trip
"There’s no excuse. We’ve been on the road for a long time and come back to altitude for one day. It’s probably our toughest game. We kind of came out a little flat, we didn’t have that energy that we need to have and they just took advantage of it."

SONICS QUOTES

Bob Hill - Seattle Sonics Head Coach
“Well obviously coming off a back to back I was concerned about our energy levels. Last night’s game was one of the weirdest I’ve ever been a part of. It took a lot of energy to win because we were so far behind, but it didn’t seem to be a problem tonight. Our legs were pretty fresh. My big concern was rebounding and we ended up out rebounding them and keeping them in front of us because they are such a good running team. So the transition defense and the rebounding were better than I anticipated. We couldn’t get to the foul line in the first half. Maybe it was my play calling, so I changed that a little bit. in the second half. We were able to the foul line but I thought Rashard once again was great, especially late in the game. The isolations in the middle of the floor and the free-throws. I thought our defense was awful good too. We did a good job on Nene late, which I thought was significant. Also Anthony and Allen, but Allen was a little out of rhythm, but Earl (Watson) did an awfully good job of staying with him and at least getting his shots contested.”

Earl Watson - Sonics Guard
“Rashard (Lewis) has been amazing. I found myself just watching him at times tonight. In the 4th quarter he was dominating. He was attacking the basket and getting rebounds, he was making plays and hitting big shots. He’s one of the best point guards in the game. The game was not perfect. We didn’t worry about the negatives, we focused on the positives and try not to make the same mistake twice and if we do we wanted to push forward and stay positive.”

Rashard Lewis - Sonics Forward
On Rasheed Wallace’s shot
“It felt good. Especially when knocking the shots down because the means the defense is push up on you a little bit closer and then I can penetrate to the hole. We tried to draw a foul and get a lay up. I was able to get all the way to the basket and get easy lay ups."

On how his body feels
"I’m tired. Just something that happens when you play back to back games. My back is tied up, my knees hurt, but you’ve got to fight through the injuries that you have towards the end of the season. It’s been a long season and I’m sure everyone has bumps and bruises.”
