NUGGETS QUOTES
George Karl – Denver Nuggets Head Coach
When asked why he went with a small lineup in the second half
"There’s a theory in the NBA that when the big guys aren’t rebounding, put in the little guys to rebound. We needed to give Camby and Elson some rest, that’s why we went small. I thought our defense was much better, even though it was sluggish in the first half. I thought Earl Watson sparked us in the second half. We aren’t going to be a polished unit until everyone gets healthy. I’d like us to be a better looking unit than what we appear tonight. Marcus continues to be a force on defense. The only bad thing is that when he is not in the game, we probably need to sound a siren to let everyone know that he’s not in the game and that we need to rebound."
Marcus Camby – Denver Nuggets Center
"It was just another game. Every time we play the Knicks, I don’t want to have to talk about the good old days. I’m with the Nuggets now, and I’m comfortable and I’m happy. We needed this game to get back to 500, I’m just trying to hold down the fort until K-Mart gets back out there. I’m just focusing on my defense, trying to control the paint, and get rebounds and blocks, and let the offense come to me. The guards are doing a good job of getting the ball to me when I’m open. They were tired in the first quarter. Brown went to his bench early. We kept wearing on them and wearing on them."
Carmelo Anthony – Denver Nuggets Forward
"I still think I’m trying to find my shot a little bit. I take what the defense gives me, take the easy shot, and get out in the open court and run. That’s the most important thing for me and the team: to get out in the open court and run. The last couple games my shot has been short, so I try to attack the basket a little more. The whole game was ugly. I don’t know what it was, but it was a good win and we’ll take a win any time we can get it. Each game our confidence is getting better and better. We need to come out on Sunday and get that game."
KNICKS QUOTES
Larry Brown - New York Knicks Head Coach
"It’s been typical of us to turn over the ball. We shot 60% from the free throw line and the turnovers are consistent with us. We did a pretty good job on Carmelo. We had a chance at the end. We could have cut the lead to four points with a 1:30 left. Our young kids will make mistakes, but it will come with effort. They tried to do the right things. We have six young ones. This group never gives up. I see areas where we are getting better."
Channing Frye – New York Knicks Center
"We just have to keep giving effort at all times when we went out there, we played like we just didn’t know any better. We just gotta go out there and go a hundred and ten percent all the time. We just have to be winners, no matter what it takes. You know we all want to get better every day. I know that, the young guys know that, and the vets know that in order to get better we have to give it one hundred and ten percent. Everyone’s just trying to go out there, young guys and old, and just win."
Stephon Marbury – New York Knicks Guard
"It’s always tough to go on the road, and now we get to go home for just one game, then we go back on the road. So we’re just making a pit stop. On this road trip we won two games and we still have to play a lot better. It’s frustrating to lose, period. We probably took a step backwards tonight, but things will be better. Our execution has to get better."
