Nuggets will face Oklahoma City in first round of playoffs
Northwest Division rivals will square off in best-of-7 series
The Nuggets will rumble with the Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
The matchup between Northwest Division rivals Denver (50-32) and Oklahoma City (55-27) became official Wednesday night when the Thunder lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the final game of the regular season.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven series will be in Oklahoma City on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. MDT.
The Nuggets went 1-3 against Oklahoma during the regular season, losing twice in a four-day span last week. Denver played the two most recent games without starting shooting guard Arron Afflalo and backup center Chris Andersen, who sat out with injuries.
Point guard Ty Lawson averaged 15.8 points and 4.8 assists against the Thunder, while center Nene averaged 15.5 points and 8.8 rebounds.
Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, the NBA’s leading scorer, averaged 31.5 points against Denver this season, while point guard Russell Westbrook averaged 10.5 points and 7.0 assists.
The Nuggets will have to win a game in Oklahoma City if they want to advance out of the first round. They are 3-3 at the former Ford Center (now Oklahoma City Arena) since the Thunder arrived from Seattle in 2007.
Denver, meanwhile, has won seven of the past eight meetings at the Pepsi Center and finished tied with Boston for the NBA’s third-best home record (33-8).
