Nuggets Re-Sign Nenę
DENVER, Jul. 20 -- The Denver Nuggets have re-signed F/C Nenę to a multi-year contract, team Director of Player Personnel Mark Warkentien announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
“We are extremely pleased to have Nenę back in the fold,” said Warkentien. “He has a rare blend of size and quickness and is a key piece of our future.”
Nenę, 6-11, 260, has played in 213 games in his four-year career – all with the Nuggets. He has averaged 10.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg in 28.6 minutes in those contests. He enjoyed his best season in 2003-04, averaging 11.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg in 77 games. He averaged 10.5 ppg and 6.1 rpg as a rookie in 2002-03 and was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.
The Brazilian appeared in just one game last season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee at San Antonio on Nov. 1. He had successful surgery on the knee on Nov. 21.
Originally the seventh overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft by New York, Nenę was acquired by the Nuggets on June 26, 2002, along with Marcus Camby and Mark Jackson, in exchange for Antonio McDyess and the draft rights to Frank Williams.
