It seems as if everyone has a draft-related question for Nuggets GM Kiki Vandeweghe nowadays. The GM's Mailbag has been flooded with terrific questions from Nuggets fans that are curious about the future of their franchise. Due to the sensitivity of the draft process, Kiki is unable to answer some questions that are submitted. However, he has and will continue to answer the fans' questions the best that he can. So, please continue to email your questions to Kiki up until Tuesday, June 28th, which is when the NBA Draft 2005 will take place and all of your questions will be answered once and for all. Submit your question.

1.) What do you believe is the missing piece to this team, and how do you attempt to attain it? (Zach & Greg)

Kiki: I think the missing piece is an interesting question because there's a lot of options and a lot of ways to win. I think we've viewed that both in San Antonio and Detroit, and that's the level we're trying to reach.

2.) I've read various draft sources that say we might use one of our picks on a backup center, or even a backup point guard. I was wondering if you were actually considering this, or if this was all just speculation? (Ryan)

Kiki: Every thing at this point is speculation. This is, believe it or not, still very early in the process. We'll still continue to evaluate players up until our picks. In my best estimation, we always try to take the best player available, regardless of position.

3.) Who do you think will end up being the best player in this year’s draft? (Terry)

Kiki: That is almost impossible to predict. If you view athleticism as your main criteria, you'd probably look at guys like Marvin Williams, Rashad McCants or Gerald Green. Some other people look at toughness as the main factor, and so forth. So there's a lot of ways to look at the draft, but we'll have to just wait and see.

4.) 4. If you draft a guard (1 or 2) are you looking for a "scorer", a "defensive stopper" or someone who combines both? (Michael)

Kiki: Obviously someone who combines both. You want the most complete player that you can get. What you try and look for also is someone that is special. A player that can get into a game, stay in the game and really help the team.

5.) If you are planning on getting a shooting guard this offseason, do you think it would be more beneficial for the team to draft one or to trade for one? (Steven)

Kiki: Well, it all depends on the type of player we can get. I think our coach's inclinations to get somebody who can come in and play in our system will be most important.

6.) It appears as if Salim Stoudamire is one of the best pure shooters available in this draft. He is projected as a mid-second-rounder. Are we interested in him? If so, would you gamble and take him with one of our first round picks or hope he is still available with our 52nd pick? (Joel)

Kiki: That's a very tough question. He came in here and worked out for us, and he did very well. I think we'd certainly look at him with any of our picks.

7.) Two questions for you. First, how many players have you scouted in person leading up to this draft? And second, this time of year, how many hours of sleep are you lucky to get? (David)

Kiki: Well, you don't get a lot sleep around the Draft, that's for sure. Although a lot of the scouting is done way ahead of time, you still usually see most of the players in the Draft at one time or another.

8.) Are there any players rated pretty high in the draft that you hope just fall into your hands with the 20th pick? (Tariq)

Kiki: Well, what I can say is that in a typical draft there is usually one or two guys that go a lot lower then it was originally projected. And you've just got to hope that if you have the 20th or so pick that you end up lucky enough to get one of those players.

9.) Would you consider packaging your two first round picks and a future first rounder to get a pick in this year's Lottery? (Alex)

Kiki: Umm, yeah we would. We would look at that. I think it all depends on exactly who is in the Draft and the information that we can find out along the way. But yeah, we would consider it.

10.) If you go after a shooting guard with the 20th pick, would you consider drafting another big man at 22? For example someone like Hakim Warrick. (John)

Kiki: We would certainly look at either combination. Our philosophy is to really just take the best player, regardless of position.

11.) Without giving away what you are going to do on draft day, what would persuade you to trade your draft picks rather than draft someone? (Brenda)

Kiki: A lot of things could persuade you. The ability to be significantly under the cap and get a really good free agent could do it. The potential to trade it for a future high Lottery pick could also do it. So there is a variety of things.

12.) What are the chances that Sani Becirovic will go to camp this year, and how will that impact your approach to this year's draft? (Kevin)

Kiki: That will not have an impact on our approach to the Draft. I think that he'll play in the Summer League, which isn't until July, and then we'll have a good idea about evaluating him after that.

13.) If we end up not trading our two first round picks, will one or both selections be stashed in Europe for a while? (George)

Kiki: I think that there is a good chance that we would send someone to Europe. I think that given where we are, having two or three rookies on the roster probably isn't what would be the most beneficial for this team.
