Kenneth Faried Named to BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried was named to the roster of the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge at All Star Weekend in Houston on Feb. 15.

This season, Faried has averaged 11.8 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 1.0 apg and 1.04 spg in 46 games (all starts). He is tied for 12th in the NBA in rebounds per game, is tied for eighth in offensive rebounds per game (3.6) and ties for 11th in field goal percentage (.547). He is also 15th in the NBA with 19 double-doubles.

“I definitely think he’s earned it. His last 82 games, since last year and this year, I think he’s one of the top five players in that class,” said Nuggets head coach George Karl. “He’s also a guy that continues to improve and is a pivotal part of our success, so I’m glad he’s being rewarded and I hope he has a great weekend.”

Additionally, the sophomore forward was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 11 with averages of 16.8 ppg and 12.8 rpg and 1.75 blocks while helping Denver to a 4-0 record for the week.

Faried becomes the ninth Nugget (Rose, McDyess, Fortson, B. Jackson, LaFrentz, Posey, Nene, Anthony) to be selected to play in the game.
