More Than $1 Million Awarded in First Round Grants
from McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Relief
Together with 46 communities program partners, the foundation established the McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign to raise money for victims of the hurricane, which swept through the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29.
“Due to the rapid and generous response of thousands of donors and our communities program partners, the McCormick Tribune Foundation was able to raise $2 million in just four days,” said David L. Grange, president and chief executive officer of the foundation. “This remarkable response has allowed the foundation to get funds out to organizations serving those in need as quickly as possible.”
While the McCormick Tribune Foundation is no longer matching donations 50 cents to the dollar, it will continue to accept and encourage donations to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign. Donors can be assured that 100 percent of all funds raised will be granted to local agencies to help hurricane victims meet basic human needs: food, shelter, health care and other necessities. Additionally, all administrative costs associated with the campaign will continue to be covered by the McCormick Tribune Foundation.
To date, the McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign has raised more than $8.7 million from more than 44,000 donors. With the addition of the $1 million in matching dollars provided by the foundation, more than $9.7 is available for grantmaking purposes.
Those who wish to donate can call the toll-free phone number 1-800-508-2848 or mail a check to McCormick Tribune Foundation, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 790, Chicago, IL 60611. Online donations can be made over a secure site: www.mccormicktribune.org.

About the McCormick Tribune Foundation
The McCormick Tribune Foundation is one of the nation’s largest charitable organizations, with combined assets of approximately $1.5 billion. In 2004, the foundation approved the distribution of more than $109 million to invest in children, communities and our country in an effort to strengthen our democratic society through innovative partnerships. The foundation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005, was established as a charitable trust upon the death of Col. Robert R. McCormick, longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The foundation is an independent nonprofit, separate from Tribune Co., with substantial holdings in Tribune Co.
The foundation provides assistance in four program areas — communities, education, journalism and citizenship — and funds a special initiatives program. Through its grants, the foundation seeks to improve the social and economic environment; encourage a free and responsible discussion of issues affecting the nation; enhance the effectiveness of American education; and stimulate responsible citizenship.
