Allen Iverson Named to Hall of Fame

By Jonathan Huang

Former Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Monday morning.

A cultural icon and a generational talent, there’s no denying The Answer’s Hall of Fame credentials. Dynamic on the court and charismatic off it, he was best known for his fearless drives, lightning speed, and his will to win. Amongst his accolades include the MVP award during the 2000-01 season, Rookie of the Year, three All-NBA First Team selections, 11 All-Star appearances, two All-Star MVPs, and a career scoring average of 26.7 per game which ranks seventh all-time. He was the NBA scoring leader four times and the steals leader three times. In addition to the scoring, he also averaged 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 914 games across 17 seasons.

Iverson landed with the Nuggets in 2006 as the second leading scorer in the league and didn’t skip a beat. He helped the team make the playoffs in a cutthroat Western Conference each of his full two seasons in Denver, and averaged over 25 points and 7 assists over that span.

Iverson joins Tom Izzo, Yao Ming, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry Reinsdorf, and Sheryl Swoopes as part of the 2016 Hall of Fame class. They will be enshrined in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Sept. 8-10.

Congratulations to the former Nugget on a phenomenal career and this momentous achievement.
