Post Game Quotes -- Nov. 10, 2006

NUGGETS QUOTES

George Karl - Denver Nuggets Head Coach
On tonight's game
"We got better tonight and we got a win, and that is huge. We could be 3-1 or 4-0 very easily. We have not played well in the 4th quarter and tonight we did a little better, but we need to do a lot better. We need to be a lot better in the post and much better in our execution and composure and also defense."

On the Nuggets fending off the comeback down the stretch
"It is harder to win on the road then it is at home. Philadelphia has been playing in a good mode. I think we did a good job defensively on Allen Iverson, kind of like the way that Indiana played him."

On the key to keep Allen Iverson contained
"We went with three defenders most of the time, two on the ball and one behind and not let him see many gaps. Take away any vision of penetration. We wanted to keep him out of the paint and I think we did a very good job of that."

Marcus Camby - Nuggets Forward/Center
On the comeback at the end of the game
"We just felt confidence. We had the ball going down the stretch and guys that can make big time free throws."

On the win
"It feels good. Hopefully it can be like a snowball effect, especially with us being on the road for three more ball games. Hopefully it can carry over to Sunday's ball game against Charlotte and take it on down to Miami."

Carmelo Anthony - Nuggets Forward
On the Sixers run at the end of the game
"Yeah we knew that they were going to make a run at the end of the game. Any team with Allen Iverson on it and a great shooter like Kyle Korver, the guys are always going to be in the ball game. We managed to have a few more possessions at the end and knocked down some free throws."

76ERS QUOTES

Maurice Cheeks - Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach
"We've given up 100 points the last couple games and our commitment to defense has to get back, it obviously has slipped a little bit. I thought tonight our defense wasn't what we like it to be, and we turned the ball over. There were 21 turnovers (in the game), only four in the second half, but I think that set the tone of the game. We had 17 turnovers, which led to 22 points for them. I just thought our game was not as crisp as it has been.”

On the Denver's defense
"We knew at the beginning of the game the way they take off, run out and get easy baskets. That was going to be a challenge for us. I thought, overall, we did that pretty good. But when you turn the ball over, they have numbers and they run. They're going to get some easy baskets. I thought that was what they did tonight. They got some easy baskets early on. Our half-court defense was just not set, not as good as I would like it."

On the 76ers defense
"Again, we gave up 15 lay-ups in the first half, and it's going to be hard to win that way. When they are making lay-ups, coming in the gut of your defense, then that's a problem. We set the tone by turning over the ball early for those guys to get some lay-ups. We just need to play overall better defense."

Allen Iverson - Sixers Guard
On tonight's loss
"We started off real slow. We started off real bad. Turning the ball over the way we did; I think that was probably the catalyst of the whole thing. Once I kept turning it over a couple times, we kept doing it as a squad. You just can't start games like that regardless if you're at home or not - especially against a team that's hungry to get a win. We knew that they were going to be gunning for us to try to get one and we just didn't respond well."

On having the chance to tie the game at the end
"We weren't going to give up in the game, but we just put ourselves in a big hole and it was too deep. We just tried as hard as we could to get back into it and by the time we did, it came down to one shot. You can't leave a game up to one shot. Nine times out of 10, it's not going to go right for you."

On the Sixers defense not being as strong as it had been in the first three games
"We haven't been as good (on defense) in the last three games. We haven't done enough on either end of the court to get it done. We just have to find out something to get us going both defensively and offensively for that matter."

On his own shooting tonight
"From the beginning of the game to the end, I could never catch a rhythm.... A lot of it came to just missing shots. I had good looks. I had some opportunities to make some baskets - especially since I knew I was having a rough night. I just knew that it just wasn't my night tonight. I struggle all the way through.

Kyle Korver - Sixers Guard/Forward
On the game tonight
"We didn't come out of the gates real sharp tonight. We got there late and had a close game at the end. We were out of sync for whatever reason, but we still had a chance at the end. We just have to get ready for the next game."

On 76ers defense tonight
"We need to get back to basics. It seems like we would finally get to stop them and they would get the ball back. We just have to do a better job."

Chris Webber - Sixers Forward
On his performance tonight
"It really feels like you are shooting 2-for-21. It's something new for me. I guess you have to find a way to make it through."

On establishing a better defense
"It's always good to go off the basics and have a re-learning session, or re-vamping. Six games is very young in the season."
