NUGGETS QUOTES
George Karl - Denver Nuggets Head Coach
On the game
“It was a great game, it was like Chicago. It is going to be very easy to be positive about (this game), other than we don’t have a win instead of a loss. The energy of the game was great and it has been a great road trip because of it and we need to just go home and take a day off and then come back fighting and then go back on the road again.”
On the last play
“I’m not going to criticize whose fault it is or what fault it is or who did wrong or what did wrong. We took the ball at the half-court because we didn’t want the ball thrown in the backcourt. I personally would have wanted the ball to be thrown towards the rim or in the corner a little bit more. But you can’t criticize a lucky shot; I mean it is a lucky shot. You can give him a hundred and he won’t make one but he made one.”
On shutting down Iverson and Anthony
“They did it similar to other teams; they came at them with two or three guys. We had a lot of other guys play good and that is the way that we are going to have to do it. When they slam (Allen) Iverson and (Carmelo) Anthony they are going to have to realize that they are going to be decoys and after the first quarter we realized that and played very well."
Marcus Camby - Nuggets Center
On the last play
“They deflected the ball. Coach told me to get the ball to ‘Melo (Carmelo Anthony) and I forced it in there and if they got the ball it was going to be a long desperation shot and I guess ‘Sheed (Rasheed Wallace) banked it in from like 60 feet. That is pretty much what happened.”
On energy in overtime
“We were in there. We got a lead and then they came down and ‘Sheed hit a big three to tie the ball game up and then we were down one and JR put up the three and it was an air ball. That was pretty much the ball game there.”
On the road trip
“There were a lot of mistakes. I think that we were a couple of ticks away from being 4-1. If you take away that Toronto game, we felt that we should have won the Chicago game but we lost that on a tip-in and we lost tonight on the heave by ‘Sheed to send it to overtime. We played well, but it just didn’t seem like we got rewarded for all the work that we put into the games."
PISTONS QUOTES
Flip Saunders - Detroit Pistons Head Coach
On Rasheed Wallace tying the game in regulation
“Well I did tell ‘Sheed (Rasheed Wallace) I wouldn’t yell at him anymore for taking those full-court shots.”
“We were very fortunate in that they called a timeout…but that’s a miracle shot. As a coach, George (Karl) will second-guess himself whether he should have called a timeout or not, but you can’t because that shot is going to happen once in a million.”
On Rasheed Wallace’s game
"’Sheed had been grinding, trying to get his game going and he made that shot, and then all of a sudden he woke up, made the other three and made some big free throws down the stretch.”
On the Pistons game
“We’re tired right now. Even Delfino and those guys have been playing a lot of minutes as subs. We just didn’t have the spark, we missed some shots, and we played out of character. Flip Murray had a 110 degree temperature. I’m surprised he was able to play how he did. He probably won’t be able to get up tomorrow.”
Chauncey Billups - Pistons Guard
On Rasheed Wallace’s shot
“It looked good the whole way. As soon as I saw it halfway in flight I was like ‘that thing is on line. That was crazy.’”
“When we do our little half court stuff (in practice) he hits them sometimes. But not like that; never.”
On the comparison to the 2004 half court shot against New Jersey
“It was kind of similar. K-Mart (Kenyon Martin) was just talking about that. ‘I told them to foul or something, I had that experience’. It was kind of similar. It was a tough grind, a tough game. We had a big shot at the end, but we lost that game, but we won this one.”
“It was a good win for us. That team has been playing really well, and we were short handed.”
Jason Maxiell - Pistons Forward
On Rasheed Wallace’s shot
“That was great. He practices it (the shot) almost every day in practice and to see him hit that, it’s automatic for me.”
On holding Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson to 29 points
“Carmelo; we pretty much had to lock him down, he is long and athletic and Tay (Tayshaun Prince) locked him up.”
On starting again
“I felt comfortable with it, it’s good for myself. I rebounded and blocked shots as always and stepped up with C-Webb (Chris Webber) out.”
On the next couple of days being valuable with players coming back
“It’s going to be really valuable. We need C-Webb to come back, Rip (Richard Hamilton) to come back healthy and get ready for this roll.”
