Season Review: Danilo Gallinari

Danilo Gallinari does all the things a small forward in the NBA has to be able to do – score, rebound, and facilitate for teammates.

At 27 years old, Gallinari averaged a career-high 19.5 points and added 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and shot 36.4% from three-point range. He poured in the points with 26 games of 20+ points.

In addition to the scoring, Gallinari’s filled up the rest of the stat sheet: On Nov. 17 against the New Orleans Pelicans, he racked up 32 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. In another against the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 24, he compiled 20 points and 18 rebounds. He was arguably playing the best ball of his career until an an ankle injury cut the remainder of his season short.

Gallinari has worked hard this season to come back next year healthy. Coach Michael Malone knows that it’s been tough on his forward because of his desire to get back on the court.

“He's a competitor and he wants to get back out there," Malone said.

Late in the season, Gallinari observed the Nuggets’ progress.

“[The team] is better,” Gallinari said. “We have a young team [and] we got better. The whole season we got better…Since the beginning of the season every practice, every game you get better. So we’re definitely better. Experience I think is a big part of getting better and being a better team and going to the playoffs and toward the championship for sure.”

As he moves toward next season, Gallinari will look to pick up right where he left off.
