Nuggets center a First Team selection for the second-straight year.

Camby Named to 2007-08 NBA All-Defensive First Team

DENVER, May 12 -- Denver Nuggets center Marcus Camby was selected to the 2007-08 NBA All-Defensive First Team, the NBA announced today.

Camby earned his second-straight All-Defensive First Team honor after leading the league in blocks for the third-straight season (3.61 bpg) and ranking second in rebounds with a career-high 13.1 rpg. He joined Dikembe Mutombo (1993-96) as the only players in NBA history to lead the league in blocks for three-consecutive seasons. This marks the fourth-straight year he has earned All-Defensive Team honors after making the Second Team in 2004-05 and ’05-06.

Camby, the 2006-07 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, is one of two players in Nuggets history chosen to the All-Defensive First Team, along with Bobby Jones (1976-77 and ’77-78). With this year’s selection, Camby surpasses T.R. Dunn as the only player in team history to have been honored for their defense on four occasions (Dunn was named to the Second Team in 1982-83, ’83-84 and ’84-85).

Also selected to the First Team are teammates Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, guard Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and forward Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics.

The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of Shane Battier of the Houston Rockets, New Orleans’ Chris Paul, Orlando’s Dwight Howard, Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince and Phoenix’s Raja Bell.

The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.
