Billups Named Western Conference Player of the Week
NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2008 -- Denver Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 16, the NBA announced today.
For the week, he averaged 21.5 ppg, 5.8 apg, 2.3 apg and 1.25 spg in four games last week as the Nuggets went 3-1, leading Denver to wins at Charlotte, at Boston and vs. Minnesota.
Billups has led Denver to an overall record of 5-1 since being acquired from Detroit on Nov. 3. He has posted averages of 19.5 ppg, 6.0 apg, 3.2 rpg and 1.83 spg in his six contests with the Nuggets.
This marks the fourth career Player of the Week award for Billups, while it is his first in the Western Conference. He garnered the Eastern Conference honor three times as a member of the Detroit Pistons, most recently on Mar. 21, 2005.
Billups is the first Nugget other than Carmelo Anthony or Allen Iverson to be honored Player of the Week since the 2005-06 season when Marcus Camby received the nod on Nov. 13, 2005. Anthony and Iverson had combined for the previous nine POW awards with Denver (Anthony - 6; Iverson - 3).
Billups is the first Nuggets player to be named Player of the Week since Iverson was selected on Apr. 14, 2008 at the conclusion of last season.
