Nuggets Sign Anthony

The Denver Nuggets have signed forward Carmelo Anthony to a multi-year contract, team General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

“This is an exciting day for the Nuggets organization and our fans,” said Vandeweghe. “Carmelo is a special player and we look forward to seeing him in a Nuggets uniform for years to come.”

Anthony, the Nuggets first-round selection (No. 3 overall) in the 2003 NBA Draft, averaged 22.2 ppg and 10.0 rpg as a freshman at Syracuse last season. He led the Orangemen to a 30-5 record and the NCAA championship, earning Final Four Most Valuable Player honors along the way. He was a consensus choice for national Freshman of the Year and was named Second Team All-America.

He is expected to make his Nuggets debut in Thursday night's Los Angeles Summer Pro League game vs. the Los Angeles Clippers. The game is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. MDT and will be played at The Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif.
