Anthony led the Nuggets to a 2-1 record, averaging 36.7 points on .570 shooting. He also pulled down 7.0 rebounds and handed out 5.0 assists while averaging 1.00 steals. After scoring 30-plus points in all three of Denver’s games this past week, Anthony now has scored 30-plus in 12 of Denver’s 15 games on the season and 12 of his last 13 games. For the second-time this season, Anthony has scored 30+ points in six consecutive games, tying Alex English’s Nuggets NBA team record for consecutive 30-point games. Anthony can break the record with a 30-point performance in his next game vs. Atlanta on 12/6. Denver has won 10 of 12 after opening the season 0-3.
This marks the fifth time in Anthony's young career that he has garnered this honor. Alex English was named Player of the Week seven times in his Nuggets career, which currently sits as the most in team history since joining the NBA in 1976. Anthony passes former Nuggets center Dikembe Mutombo for the second-most in team history with five.
Anthony becomes the first Nugget to receive the award in back-to-back weeks. During the 1986-87 season, Alex English was named Player of the Week for the week ending 1/25/87 and then the following week Fat Lever received the honor for the week ending 2/1/87.
Melo received the award twice during his rookie season (weeks ending 3/14/04 and 4/11/04) and once last season for the week ending 3/19/06.
