DENVER, Nov. 27 -- Nuggets forward
Carmelo Anthony was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 26, the NBA announced today.
Anthony led the Nuggets to a 4-0 record, averaging 31.3 points on .548 shooting. He also dished out 5.3 assists and pulled down 4.8 rebounds while averaging 2.75 steals. After scoring 30-plus points in three of Denver’s four games this past week, Anthony now has scored 30-plus in nine of Denver’s 12 games on the season. Denver has won eight of nine, including five straight, after opening the season 0-3.
This marks the fourth time in Anthony's young career that he has garnered this honor. Alex English was named Player of the Week seven times in his Nuggets career, which currently sits as the most in team history since joining the NBA in 1976. Anthony now ties former Nuggets center Dikembe Mutombo for the second-most in team history with four. Melo received the award twice during his rookie season (weeks ending 3/14/04 and 4/11/04) and once last season for the week ending 3/19/06.
