DENVER, Feb. 12 -- Denver Nuggets forward
Carmelo Anthony was named Player of the Week for the Western Conference for games played from Monday, Feb. 5 through Sunday, Feb. 11, the NBA announced today. Anthony also won consecutive Player of the Week honors earlier this season for games played between Nov. 20 and Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 and Dec. 3.
Anthony, who leads the NBA in scoring at 30.9 ppg, averaged 30.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 7.8 apg in four games last week as the Nuggets went 2-2. He posted his first career triple-double against Phoenix on Feb. 5, finishing with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He flirted with triple-doubles in three other games, tallying 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists against the Hornets on Feb. 7, 34 points, six rebounds and five assists at Indiana on Feb. 9 and 29 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists at Milwaukee on Feb. 10. The 10 assists tied his career high.
Anthony has now garnered six Player of the Week honors in his three-plus seasons in the NBA – one shy of Alex English’s team record of seven. He is the first Nugget to be named Player of the Week three times in a single season.
Anthony received the award twice during his rookie season (weeks ending March 14 and April 11, 2004) and once last season for the week ending March 19.
