Afflalo practices, ready for 2011 preseason debut

Nuggets wrap up two-game exhibition schedule in Phoenix

His defense was solid but his shot was a little rusty. All in all, Arron Afflalo was just happy to be back with his teammates working to improve his game.

“Working out with the guys at practice was fun,” the Nuggets shooting guard said Wednesday. “It was a good first day. I’m happy to be back.”

“I don’t like the build-up process of trying to get my game to the level where I’m ready to do some damage. But it’s part of the process of being out a long time and I’m excited for the whole year.”

Afflalo, one of Denver’s most tireless workers, missed the first 11 days of training camp while finalizing his new contract with the Nuggets. He will make his preseason debut Thursday against the Phoenix Suns.

“I’m sure there will be a minute limit on him, but he’s ready to go,” coach George Karl said.

Karl might not have a full roster at his disposal in the second and final preseason tune-up.

Point guard Ty Lawson sprained his left ankle during practice and is day-to-day. Forwards Nene (right hamstring tightness) and Al Harrington (back) did not practice and also are listed as day-to-day.
