Nuggets point guard Kenny Satterfield

A New York native, Satterfield played two years at Cincinnati before entering the 2001 NBA Draft following his sophomore season. Drafted in the second round (No. 54) by the Mavericks, his rights were traded to Denver and he appeared in 36 games last season averaging 5.3 points and 3.0 assists in 15.6 minutes for the Nuggets. He spent the offseason in Denver working out at the Pepsi Center and the hard work showed as he finished second in the Rocky Mountain Revue in assists (5.2 apg) while helping the Nuggets to a perfect 6-0 record. Satterfield enters training camp vying for the team’s starting point guard job.

JG: “Growing up in New York, should I assume you were a Knicks fan as a kid?”
Kenny Satterfield: “Uh, somewhat. I used to like some of the players on the Knicks and some of the players on the Nets.”

JG: “Who is the toughest guy for you to guard?”
Satterfield: “Stephon Marbury (Phoenix Suns).”

JG: “Who guards you the toughest?”
Satterfield: “Hmmm. I don’t know. I’ve never thought of it that way.”

JG: “What was the most memorable game that you’ve played in?”
Satterfield: “As far as the NBA?”
JG: “Could be college or NBA, either one.”
Satterfield: “I don’t know, I remember a lot of games. My most memorable game might be the first game I started, in Chicago (3/30/02 – 12 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds).”

JG: “Who has the best uniforms in the league?"
Satterfield: “I really like Dallas’s ones the best.”

JG: “Who has the worst?”
Satterfield: “Let’s see, who’s got a bad one. I can’t think. Who do you think is the worst?”
JG: “I’d have to say Houston. Well, actually I think it’s a toss-up between Cleveland and Houston.”

JG: “What would you say if the Nuggets decided to go back to the old Rainbow uniforms?”
Satterfield: “I like those. I’d like that.”

JG: “Who has the best arena in the league?”
Satterfield: “We do.”

JG: “Who has the worst arena?”
Satterfield: “The worst? Hmm.”
JG: “Or worst visiting locker room?”
Satterfield: “The worst locker room we’ve been in was … I can’t remember. Damn. We were just talking about the other day because it was stinkin’ too. I forgot which one it was.”
(to Zendon Hamilton) “Hey Z, where was that locker room where they had it stinkin’?”
Hamilton: “Oh. Where was that? Was it in Detroit?”
Satterfield: “No, was it Boston? Yeah, it was Boston. Boy, that place smelled. They did us wrong up there. They had it stinkin’ in there for us on purpose.”

JG: “Here is an easy one, where is the toughest place to play?”
Satterfield: “Sacramento.”
JG: ”That’s what I figured you would say.”

JG: “Who is your closest friend on another NBA team and how did you become friends?”
Satterfield: “DerMarr Johnson (Atlanta Hawks). He’s probably my best friend. Kenyon (Martin, New Jersey Nets) too. My Cincinnati boys. Rodney (White) was before he was here. We played AAU ball together and against each other in college.”
JG: “How is DerMarr doing? (Johnson fractured four vertebrae in a car wreck in Sept. and is out for the season)
Satterfield: “He’s doing good. A lot better.”

JG: “Which is the bigger thrill, dunking on someone or blocking his shot?”
Satterfield: “Dunking on somebody. Definitely dunking.”

JG: “Why did you pick No. 11? Any significance there?”
Satterfield: “When I was younger, the building I used to live in was No. 11. And I always liked Isiah Thomas. He was 11.”

JG: “Any Super Bowl or World Series predictions?
Satterfield: “The New England Patriots are going to take it again.”

JG:“What about the World Series?”
Satterfield: “I’m a big Yankees fan. Definitely the New York Yankees.”

JG: “What did your mom call you as a kid? Any nicknames around the neighborhood?”
Satterfield: “Everybody’s always called me the same thing they do now. ‘Satt.’”

JG: “What is your favorite movie of all-time?”
Satterfield: “All About the Benjamins.”

JG: “If they made a movie about your life, who would play you?”
Satterfield: “Who would play me? I’ve got to go with my man Wesley Snipes.”

JG: “What is the best CD ever made?”
Satterfield: “Jay-Z, ‘Reasonable Doubt’”

JG: “And finally, function over fashion or fashion over function?”
Satterfield: “Fashion.”
