The Denver Nuggets took part in the 2009 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS in Las Vegas, Nevada, marking their sixth-straight year doing so. The 2009 Summer League was once again played at both the COX Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus from July 10-19.
The Nuggets played five games during this year's competition, taking on the New Orleans Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards and NBA D-League Select Team.
This year's roster featured second-year guard/forward Sonny Weems as well as guard Ty Lawson, the 18th overall pick from North Carolina who was acquired by the Nuggets from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a draft-night trade on June 26. Weems averaged 1.6 ppg in 12 games with the Nuggets last season and also helped lead the Colorado 14ers to the NBA Development League title, averaging 20.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.0 apg in 21 games. Lawson was named the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and was a key member of the Tarheels’ 2009 NCAA Championship team.
Denver's roster consisted of five players with previous NBA experience, including former first round draft picks Kareem Rush and Cedric Simmons.
The team was coached by Nuggets Assistant Coach John Welch.
