Week Ahead: Blazers, Brooklyn on deck for Nuggets

Tough tests continue for Denver as playoff contenders visit Pepsi Center
by Aaron Lopez

As the Denver Nuggets fight to stay afloat in the Western Conference, their challenge doesn’t get any easier in the final week of February.

The Nuggets will face the Portland Trail Blazers at Pepsi Center on Tuesday and bookend the week in Portland on Saturday. In between, they will take on the resurgent Brooklyn Nets at home Thursday.

The Blazers have the fourth-best record in the West, while Brooklyn has risen to sixth in the East on the strength of a 16-7 record since Jan. 1.

Here’s a quick look at each opponent:

The Trail Blazers (38-18) have cooled somewhat since their 24-5 start, but they remain in prime position for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge has missed three straight games with a groin injury but could return sometime this week. Portland is 2-1 without Aldridge.

The Nets (26-28) were in disarray while dealing with numerous injuries early in the season, but they have found their stride under first-year coach Jason Kidd. Brooklyn went 10-1 immediately after the calendar flipped to 2014 and is 2-2 on a season-long seven-game road trip.
