Depleted by injuries to starting forward Antonio McDyess, starting guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and reserve forward Reggie Williams, the Nuggets built a 20-point lead after three quarters and then hung on to beat the Golden State Warriors 109-104.

Don MacLean matched his career high with 38 points and added nine rebound and three steals. Dikembe Mutombo had a big night as well, recording 18 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Nuggets coach Bernie Bickerstaff used only seven players in the game and played four of his five starters at least 44 minutes. Doug Overton and Tom Hammonds combined to play just 24 minutes of the bench as Golden State’s reserves outscored their Denver counterparts 66-8.

Latrell Sprewell was the only Warriors starter to score in double figures.
