For a clinic on unselfish play, the NBA should distribute copies of the Denver Nuggets’ game against the Golden State Warriors on April 21, 1989.

Led by Fat Lever’s 23 assists, the Nuggets finished with a franchise-record 52 assists in a 139-121 road win in Oakland, Calif.

Lever tied Larry Brown’s single-game franchise assist record as part of a remarkable night. He also had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five steals en route to his eighth triple-double of the season.

It was Lever’s 37th career triple-double; he would finish with 42 in his 11 NBA seasons with the Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks.
