Rookie Dikembe Mutombo controls the glass
When it comes to rookie rebounding records, no one in Denver Nuggets history stands taller than Dikembe Mutombo.
The 7-foot-2 Mutombo owns the four highest single-game rebounding marks by a Denver rookie, including a 19-board performance against the Dallas Mavericks on Valentine’s Day 1992.
Playing 39 minutes in a 105-85 victory at McNichols Sports Arena, Mutombo also had 18 points and five blocked shots.
Mutombo, the fourth overall pick of the 1991 draft, gave fans an indication of his dominance on the glass when he grabbed at least 13 boards in each of his first five NBA games.
He had 16 rebounds in his debut, and his 22 rebounds on Dec. 26, 1991, still stand as the most in a single game by a Nuggets rookie.
