DND Spotlight: Minnie

This is Minnie’s rookie season with the Denver Nuggets Dancers (DND) and she could not be more proud to represent her home state alongside new teammates.

“What’s not to love!?” Exclaims Minnie. “It is such a privilege and honor to be living a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I would have to say my favorite thing about being on the team is the relationships you build with all the ladies, knowing you always have them to encourage you and make you stronger. I love my teammates! Each and every one of them inspires me in different ways.”

Originally from Thornton, CO, she has been dancing since the young age of three and even participated in a recital with her sister when they performed a choreographed skit to the song, ‘Santa Baby’.

“I have always loved dance. It is all I’ve ever known!” she says.

It’s no doubt dancing comes natural to this talented DND, but things weren’t always easy. Minnie was born with a genetic hip abnormality, and her parents were told she would have a developmental delay in walking. Therefore, putting any excess stress on the hips, such as running or dancing on a typical growth schedule, would be highly unlikely.

Miraculously, Minnie not only defied her original prognosis, but she hit her baby milestone ahead of schedule!

“I was born with hip dysplasia (developmental dysplasia of the hip),” Minnie explains, “I was in a cast from the waist down until I was six months old. My doctor said I wouldn’t walk until I was at least two, but I was actually out of my cast and walking at 10 and 1/2 months!”

From the beginning, Minnie has been an optimistic, energetic and dedicated dancer. There are truly not enough Nuggets home games to display all the talent this girl harbors. From plies to walking it out, she is trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and tap. Her diverse set of skills have even taken her on several Royal Caribbean cruise ships and multiple countries overseas to perform.

We are lucky to call her one of our very own DND’s, and we can always count on her to put her best dancing foot forward.

No matter the score, this hard-worker will be there to cheer on her home team and lives by one of her favorite quotes from the motion picture, Grease.

“It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s what you do with your dancin’ shoes!”
