The Read Team strives to reduce illiteracy by encouraging second and third grade students to read for 20 minutes a day for 20 days during the months of January and February. Students who complete this reading goal receive incentives and have the opportunity to win Nuggets player appearances, team merchandise, game tickets, and most importantly – books!

Over the last seven years, the team has donated more than 10,000 books to the Denver community and over 1,000 students have had the chance to read with a player.

Read Team works in conjunction with the NBA’s Read to Achieve campaign which is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports, reaching an estimated 50 million children a year. Efforts of the NBA’s Read to Achieve program include the annual donation of more than 200,000 books through a variety of reading events and incentive programs.

In addition to being supported by all 29 NBA teams, 13 WNBA teams, the six teams that make up the NBA's minor league, the National Basketball Development League (NBDL), Read to Achieve is supported by the NBA's officials, parents and wives of players organizations, and the NBA Players Association and Retired Players Association.

This program is open to 2nd and 3rd Grade classrooms in the seven-county metro area; individual requests will not be accepted.
