Carmelo Anthony Foundations May "15 on the 15th"
Program Celebrates Older Americans Month

DENVER, May 13, 2009 – The Carmelo Anthony Foundation today announced that elderly adults from Denver’s Senior Support Services will receive free haircuts at Carmelo Anthony’s Studio 15 (www.Studio15Barbershop.com) on Friday, May 15th in celebration of Older American’s Month. This event is a continuation of the Foundation’s monthly “15 on the 15th” program in which free haircuts are provided to disadvantaged children or underserved adults throughout the Denver area.

The 15 senior citizens will arrive at Melo’s Studio 15, located at 1740 Blake Street in Denver’s LoDo District, at 9 a.m. In addition to the haircuts, each senior will receive a personal care gift bag with grooming products, courtesy of TIGI Haircare. The Foundation is partnering with the law firm of Gelfand, Rennert and Feldman, L.L.P to make May’s event possible, and Studio 15 General Manager Lewis Griffin and his staff will oversee the event.

“Denver is pleased to continue a tradition started by President Kennedy of honoring all of our nation’s older adults during the month of May,” said Mayor John Hickenlooper. “We are excited to be a part of this month’s celebration and want to thank Carmelo Anthony for his kindness in recognizing 15 older adults from Senior Support Services with free haircuts.”

Senior Support Services was established in 1976 when six churches in downtown Denver came together to assist low-income and homeless seniors who were being displaced by downtown redevelopment. In 1979, they began to provide day shelter, coffee, one hot meal per day and case management services to assist seniors in obtaining benefits and finding affordable housing. Their mission is to make each day better and safer for Denver’s low-income and homeless seniors by providing the resources and support they need to lead more self-sufficient and fulfilling lives.

Carmelo launched the “15 on the 15th” program in January 2009 as another way for his Foundation to serve the Denver community. On the 15th of each month, the Foundation selects a different community organization in Denver as the beneficiary of the program. To date, Family Resources Center, Denver Children's Home, Excelsior Youth Center and the William E. Cope Branch of Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver have benefitted from this monthly event.

About The Carmelo Anthony Foundation
In 2005, Carmelo Anthony established the Carmelo Anthony Foundation as the vehicle for which he and his family would give back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations. The Foundation’s mission is to invest in programs and community organizations that empower and provide opportunities for underserved children and families. Since joining the Nuggets in 2003, Melo has been an active member of the Colorado community. Among his many activities include the “15 on the 15th” haircut program at Studio 15 Barbershop, purchasing tickets to Nuggets’ home games for less fortunate families and hosting an annual holiday event entitled “A Very Melo Christmas” in which he provides presents and a day of activities for disadvantaged children.
