Established in 1993, the YMCA Jr. Nuggets is the largest youth basketball league in Colorado. The Jr. Nuggets includes 17,000 boys and girls, ages 3-17 years, as members and provides them with the opportunity to play basketball at fourteen YMCAs along Colorado's Front Range. Each team has two volunteer coaches who supervise practices and league play. The League has a fall and winter session with eight to ten games for each team. Start dates for fall sessions are in October, and January for winter sessions.

The League builds athletic ability and shapes leadership skills with the assistance of Nuggets players, alumni and coaches, attendance and recognition at special Nuggets games, and a coaching clinic at Pepsi Center. The League involves children from all ethnic, geographic and economic backgrounds.
The Jr. Nuggets program is supported in part by grants from the Denver Nuggets Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Since 1993, the DNCF has granted more than $500,000 in support of this vital youth sports program.
For the fourth season, the Jr. Nuggets is enhanced by the support of the NBA’s grassroots basketball effort.
The Jr. Nuggets is a part of the NBA's youth basketball programs,
Jr. NBA/WNBA, which are dedicated to growing the sport of basketball in non-NBA markets and enhancing existing basketball programs in NBA markets. The Jr. NBA/WNBA Advisory Council is comprised of basketball legend Bill Walton, Ray Allen (Seattle Sonics), Mike Bibby (Sacramento Kings), Doc Rivers (Boston Celtics, Head Coach), Danny Crawford (NBA Official), Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Tina Thompson (Houston Comets), Bill Laimbeer (Detroit Shock, Head Coach), Nell Fortner (Indiana Fever, Head Coach) and Lisa Mattingly (WNBA Official).
This season financial assistance for the Junior Nuggets program will be offered through the Comfort Dental Every Kid Plays Program. For more information about the program, please contact your area-YMCA.
The Jr. NBA/WNBA national sponsors are Nike and Gatorade.
