MISSION STATEMENT
The Denver Nuggets Wives Organization (DNWO), comprised of the wives and girlfriends of Nuggets players, coaches and management, is committed to supporting the Denver community and each other. The Organization concentrates primarily on issues that deal with children, education, health, and women, and participate in these areas through fundraising and volunteer efforts in conjunction with the Denver Nuggets Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.
2004-05 EFFORTS
Brass Ring Luncheon
Members of the Denver Nuggets Wives Organization support the Denver community with their attendance at the Brass Ring Luncheon to benefit the Children's Diabetes Foundation and the Denver Nuggets Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Since 1998, the DNCF has contributed over $700,000 to aid the Children's Diabetes Foundation in their efforts to provide services, treatment and care for over 5,000 children a year visiting the Barbara Davis Center.
"Touching a Life" 2005 Gala
The Denver Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation held its "Touching a Life" Gala on February 18, 2005 at the Seawell Ballroom in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. With the help of Behind the Bench and the Denver Nuggets Wives Organization, the black tie affair raised awareness of breast cancer while raising funds to help eradicate the disease. All funds raised through this special event will be distributed in the community through the well-established grants program of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
2003-04 EFFORTS
Holiday Adopt-A-Family
The Denver Nuggets Wives Organization adopted girls at Excelsior Youth Center and purchased holiday presents for them. At the beginning of December, the girls compiled a 'wish list' consisting of items ranging from CD's, stuffed animals, and lotion to art supplies, bed sheets, and exercise equipment. The DNWO donated many of these items in hopes of bringing excitement and holiday joy to the girls living at the residential center.
Literacy Initiatives
In support of the Nuggets' Read Team and the NBA's Read to Achieve literacy programs, the DNWO hosted its annual book drive prior to several games throughout the month of January. The group then donated the new and gently used books to community centers in the Denver area.
Additionally, the DNWO officially opened the first 'Denver Nuggets Reading and Learning Center' at Girls, Inc. in Denver on March 30. They donated over 500 new books, 20 Leap Frog Learning Stations with interactive books, and six basketball-themed bean bag chairs. The women also hung a very unique Denver Nuggets quilt that the girls from Girls, Inc. created. The quilt consisted of 48 patches that combine into one giant Denver Nuggets logo.
Easter Basket Auction
The group hosted their annual Easter basket auction during the Nuggets vs. Rockets game on Friday, April 2 . The baskets included player's favorite items including CD's, restaurant gift certificates, DVD's, autographed merchandise, and much more!
