July 31--NBA Legend Jo Jo White talked with NBA.com about Tuesday's trade that brought Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics.

What It Means For The Celtics and Celtics’ Fans
To say the least it is magnificent. With him and Ray Allen, it catapults us right back into an opportunity to compete at the highest level. So we are ecstatic with all that has materialized thus far. We have loyal fans and they’ve been waiting very, very patiently with the highs and the lows, mostly the lows, but now to get an opportunity to just be able to compete with the talent that we have. It certainly has resurged a lot of interest. We are only too excited as a franchise about the whole transaction.

Three Is Nice, Five Is Better
Having three top notch players is great, but it is imperative that you have a big five. Right now there aren’t that many teams in the NBA. Even though you have players assembled there are very few teams. This is why you are not seeing a lot of consistency in terms of championship play. Now once you start to put the pieces all together and then they recognize that they can’t win without the contributions of one another, then you become a team. Each of these players – Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett – have played outstanding ball and put up big numbers but haven’t won a damn thing because they’re just individuals. So now they get an opportunity collectively of doing something that all of them can be successful.
