Celtics, Bulls and Knicks Celebrate Holiday with Green Uniforms
NEW YORK – March 6, 2006 – The NBA will celebrate the St. Patrick's Day holiday this year when three teams wear Special Edition NBA St. Patrick’s Day Uniforms. The Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and New York Knicks will participate in the holiday celebration by wearing specially designed green uniforms in home games beginning March 12. In addition to the uniforms, a variety of accessories with various shamrock inspired graphics utilizing the NBA logo will be available.
The St. Patrick’s Day program is the first of its kind for the NBA and tips off the league’s ongoing plans to celebrate specific holidays through limited edition merchandise and fan gear. Fans will also be able to get an interactive look at the special edition uniforms on NBA LIVE 06 and NBA 2K6 videogames by unlocking them with a special password that can be accessed at NBA.com in the “Videogame” section under “Player Nation” on the day they are released.
The Boston Celtics will wear the special edition green uniforms beginning March 12 at home against the Denver Nuggets. The team will maintain its signature road look with a solid green jersey, however, the St. Patrick’s Day uniform features gold and white striped trim and the wordmark “BOSTON” across the front in gold letters with white trim. Fans will also be able to see the new uniforms when the Celtics play at the Miami Heat on March 16 on TNT at 8 p.m. EST.
For the St. Patrick’s Day program, elements of the well known red Chicago Bulls road uniform will be switched to green. In keeping with tradition, the bull’s head on the shorts and the center back neck of the jersey remains red and black. The teams “BULLS” wordmark remains on the front of the jersey in black. The Bulls will wear their green uniforms at home on March 18 against the Miami Heat.
The New York Knicks will wear their St. Patrick’s Day uniforms at home on March 17 against the Detroit Pistons on NBA TV 7:30 p.m. EST. The jerseys are green with orange and black stripes down the sides and neck. “NEW YORK” is emblazoned across the chest of the uniforms in orange letters with white trim.
Additional accessories to accompany the NBA St. Patrick’s Day Uniforms include green socks, wristbands and headbands, as well as neck ties and team-specific caps. The accessories will feature one of the two new NBA/Shamrock logos. Licensing partners for the NBA St. Patrick’s Day line include Reebok, For Bare Feet and Ralph Marlin.
NBA St. Patrick’s Day merchandise will be available at the world’s only NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, online at NBAStore.com, as well as in NBA team shops beginning Tuesday, March 7.
The NBA and Reebok will support the St. Patrick’s Day program with ads in Dime, Slam and School Sports magazines beginning March 1. Dime magazine will begin a promotion with commemorative custom covers for each team featuring the Celtics’ Paul Pierce, the Bulls’ Ben Gordon and the Knicks’ Stephon Marbury.
