HOUSTON, Aug. 17 (AP) -- The Houston Rockets agreed to take forward Glen Rice from the New York Knicks on Friday in a three-team trade that was delayed for a week. The deal, also involving the Dallas Mavericks, had been held up while the Rockets reviewed Rice's medical records. To complete the trade, Houston will receive unspecified future considerations from both Dallas and New York.

Rice "is a Houston Rocket now and we are very happy to make that statement," general manager Carroll Dawson said. "From last week, everyone understands how happy we are to get him and to get this finalized now is a big thrill." The Rockets had until noon Friday to complete the deal, which was expected to get league approval. On Aug. 11, the Rockets sent Shandon Anderson to the Knicks for Rice. Howard Eisley moved from Dallas to New York, and Muggsy Bogues went from New York to Dallas. The Mavericks also sent rookie Kyle Hill to Houston. Rice, a three-time All-Star, was bothered by a left foot injury last season that limited his play. He has averaged 19.5 points over 12 NBA seasons with the Heat, Hornets, Lakers and Knicks. But his average dipped to 12 points in 75 games -- with 25 starts -- last season for the Knicks. He is expected to be a starter in Houston. "Right now he's not healthy to play today," Rockets team doctor Walter Lowe said. "As long as he proceeds along with his rehabilitation he'll be able to play by the time it's time to start playing. "He's had a bunch of treatment. He's starting to work out. It looks better than in January when he had the MRI. He's just got some more rehab to do before he should pound on it on a basketball court." Asked if Rice would be ready for the start of next season, Lowe said: "Our thoughts are that he should be available." A healthy Rice will fit well with the Rockets, Dawson said. "We looked at miles and miles of film with him even back to his Charlotte days and he's already had a very good, brilliant career and I think he's going to bring a lot to this team," Dawson said.
