NEW YORK, May 22 -- Utah Jazz forward Karl
Malone earned his 12th career First Team selection as the 2000-01 NBA
All-Interview teams were announced by the NBA Public Relations Directors
Association (NBAPRDA) on Tuesday.
Joining Malone, who received a team-high 43 votes, on
the 2000-01 team are Sacramento's Chris Webber (40
votes), Minnesota's Kevin Garnett (32
votes), Milwaukee's Ray Allen (30 votes) and
San Antonio's Avery Johnson (29
votes). For the eighth time in his career, Milwaukee's George Karl led balloting
among coaches, receiving 57 votes.
The 2000-01 NBA All-Interview Second Team consists of the Los Angeles Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal (28 votes), San Antonio's David Robinson (26), Philadelphia's Dikembe Mutombo (20), Toronto's Charles Oakley (16), Dallas' Steve Nash (12), Houston's Steve Francis (12) and Miami's Alonzo Mourning (12). Orlando's Glenn "Doc" Rivers received the second-highest vote total among coaches with 28.
Eighty-eight players and 11 coaches were named on at least one of the 104 ballots cast. The voting panel consisted of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada who regularly cover the NBA. They were asked to vote for a coach and five players, without regard to position, based on their accessibility and ability to provide informative and interesting quotes.
