NEW YORK, April 1 -- Philadelphia 76ers head coach Larry Brown and San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in March.

Brown, who wins the award for the second consecutive month, led the Sixers to an Eastern Conference-best 11-5 record for March. Highlighted by an impressive 9-3 record on the road, the Sixers ended the month with a playoff-clinching victory over the Orlando Magic and in the process moved to within two and a half games of the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons.

Popovich guided the Spurs to an NBA-best 14-3 record for March, including a perfect 6-0 record on the road. In their quest for the best record in the Western Conference, the Spurs defeated division-leaders Sacramento, New Jersey and Dallas, and own the NBA’s longest current winning streak at five games.

Other candidates for the Coach of the Month awards were Detroit’s Rick Carlisle, Golden State’s Eric Musselman and Orlando’s Doc Rivers.
