NEW YORK, Jan. 12 -- Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers lead the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively, in votes received after the third returns in the 2004 NBA All-Star Balloting program.

Through the 2004 All-Star NBA Balloting program, NBA fans from around the globe are responsible for voting in the starters for the 53rd NBA All-Star Game, which will be played at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 15. The game will be broadcast live on TNT, Rogers Sportsnet, ESPN Radio and audio in several languages on at 8 p.m. ET.

The Eastern Conference accounts for the top two vote-getters as Carter leads all players with 1,629,169 votes and center Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons is second in total votes with 1,465,308. Following Carter at forward in the Eastern Conference is Jermaine O'Neal of the Indiana Pacers (1,225,350). Philadelphia's Allen Iverson (1,322,327) and Orlando's Tracy McGrady (939,547) lead the East guards.

Third in overall votes received, the Lakers' Bryant leads all Western Conference players with 1,333,262 votes at the guard position. Steve Francis (727,103) of the Rockets is second behind Bryant at guard. At the forward spots in the West, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett (1,305,540) and San Antonio's Tim Duncan (1,275,767) lead in the third returns. Shaquille O'Neal is first among the Western Conference centers with 1,115,881 votes, followed by Houston's Yao Ming (1,091,997).

Through the 2004 NBA All-Star Balloting program, which began Nov. 13, fans have the opportunity to vote in more ways than ever. NBA All-Star Balloting expanded this season to include 17 languages on the Network, downloadable ballots via Verizon Wireless and voting at Loews Cineplex Entertainment movie theaters along with Foot Locker, Circuit City and Champs Sports locations throughout the United States.

Sprite, America Online, Champs Sports, Reebok and 989 Sports also return as balloting partners this year. These outlets are in addition to ballots being distributed in all 28 NBA arenas. The balloting partners also provide links to the All-Star Ballot from their homepages.

NBA All-Star 2004 is a weeklong celebration that enables fans to experience the thrill of the world's greatest athletes playing the game they love and features a full slate of community enhancing activities and fan festivals.

The 2004 NBA All-Star Balloting program continues through Jan. 18, 2004, and updated results for the Eastern and Western Conferences will be issued regularly leading up to the unveiling of the All-Star starters on Thursday, Jan. 29.

Following the completion of fan voting and starting line-up announcement, the head coaches in each conference will vote to determine the remaining All-Stars in their respective conferences.
