OCTOBER 30, 2001 vs. INDIANA: The Nets got off to a good start in the new season as they defeated the Indiana Pacers, 103-97, at the Continental Airlines Arena... The win marked the first opening night victory for New Jersey since the 1997-98 season... That year, they defeated the Indiana Pacers, 97-95, to ruin the coaching debut of Larry Bird... Jason Kidd finished the contest one assist shy of his 39th career triple-double... He finished the game with 14 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals... The Pacers came out of the gates firing and led by as many as 14 points in the first quarter...Jalen Rose scored 19 of his career-high 43 points in the quarter, as he shot a perfect 9-9 (100%) from the field...New Jersey made a small charge in the second quarter and pulled within seven points when Keith Van Horn connected on a three pointer with 57.2 seconds remaining in the quarter... Indiana led 53-45 at the break... New Jersey stepped up its play in the second half, and especially in the fourth quarter.. Van Horn scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and Kidd scored 11 points with seven assists in the second half to pace New Jersey... Van Horn's three-pointer with 5:31 gave the Nets a 92-91 lead, a lead in which the Nets would not give up for the rest of the game... The Nets received production off the bench as they outscored the Pacers reserves, 30-17... New Jersey also outscored the Pacers 38-22 in the paint.

NOVEMBER 13, 2001 at INDIANA: The Nets went into Conseco Fieldhouse and came out with a 91-82 victory over the Indiana Pacers... The win marked the first time since 12/17/88 and 1/14/89 that the Nets won two games in a row at Indiana... The win also gave New Jersey an overall four-game winning streak for the first time since March of 2000... Jason Kidd had another brilliant game on the road, as he finished the game with a team-high 20 points and a game-high 10 assists to pace the Nets... He collected eight points and five assists in the first quarter to help New Jersey to a fast start... The Nets led 32-16 at the end of the first, and Indiana could never catch up the rest of the way... The Pacers did cut the deficit to four points midway through the fourth quarter when Travis Best connected on a 17' jumper to make the score 74-70... After that shot however, the Nets went on a 14-2 run to put the game away... Once again, the Nets starters provided enough offense, as four of the five scored in double figures... Keith Van Horn recorded his third straight double-double, as he finished with 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, while Kenyon Martin finished the contest with 13 points and seven rebounds... The Pacers were led by Jalen Rose who finished with 21 points... He is averaging 32.0 ppg against the Nets in two games this season... The Nets bench outscored the Pacers bench, 27-16, making it the seventh consecutive game the bench has outscored their bench counterparts.

DECEMBER 21, 2001 at INDIANA: The Nets four game winning steak was snapped as they fell to the Indiana Pacers 100-94 at Conseco Fieldhouse… Jermaine O’Neal scored a game-high 29 points, while Reggie Miller added 16 points including a big shot with 1:16 remaining to seal the win… The game was close in the first quarter as Keith Van Horn scored seven points to pace New Jersey… The Pacers, however, stormed back at the end of the second quarter as they went on a 16-5 run to close out the half leading, 51-42… Miller’s three pointer with 4:54 remaining in the second gave the Pacers a one-point lead that they would never relinquish again… Indiana stretched their lead to as many as 16 points in the frame, as O’Neal scored 12 points… The Nets fought back in the fourth quarter and cut the Pacers lead to 94-90, as Jason Collins converted on a lay-up with 1:28 remaining… The Pacers responded on their next possession as Miller connected on a 17’ jumper… He went on to hit three free-throws down the stretch to end the game… The Pacers outscored the Nets 26-9 on fast break points and 40-34 in the paint… Despite the loss, the Nets lead the season series 2-1.

DECEMBER 29, 2001 vs. INDIANA: The Nets won their third straight game as they defeated the Indiana Pacers 98-93 in overtime… With the win, the Nets took the season series from the Pacers, 3-1… It marked the first time since the 1995-96 season that the Nets won a season series against Indiana… Jason Kidd was one basket shy of a triple-double, as he finished the contest with eight points, a season-high 15 rebounds and 14 assists to led New Jersey… The Nets got off to a fast start as they led by as many as 12 points in the first quarter… Kidd had eight assists in the frame, while Kerry Kittles scored 13 of his team-high 22 points… The Nets played tough in the second quarter as they took a 51-45 lead into halftime… The Pacers kept the game close in the second half as Jermaine O’Neal and Reggie Miller played well for the Pacers… O’Neal finished the game with a game-high 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, while Miller chipped in with 21 points… The Pacers took the lead early in the forth quarter and held it until 25.8 seconds remaining when Kerry Kittles connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 88-88… The Nets had a chance to win it at the end of regulation but O’Neal blocked Kidd as he was going up for a lay-up… The Nets were led in the overtime by Todd MacCulloch and Kerry Kittles, each of whom scored four points en route to the victory.
