August 19, 2010
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—The Nets welcomed their newest acquisition, New Jersey native Troy Murphy, to the PNY Center today as he was introduced to the media. The 6’11” power forward is glad to return home and play for the team he grew up following. Murphy will wear number 7 for the Nets.
On his reaction coming to New Jersey:
“I’m really excited to be here. This is the team I watched growing up as a kid and I’m looking forward to getting the season started.”
On if he ever dreamed of playing for his hometown team:
“It was a dream but one that I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen. Being traded here is something that’s exciting for me and something I’m really looking forward to.”
"
On fitting in with his new team:
“I think I fit in well playing with a center like Lopez and I think with Devin Harris, he’s a guy that a lot of guys in this league would like to play with, a good point guard and I think I fit in well with this team.”
On Brook Lopez and their one-two punch:
“He is one of the top young centers in the league and he’s a load down there, demands a double team, so he’s going to make things easy for me, get me open shots and help me out on the boards.”
On being coached by Avery Johnson after playing with him as teammate in Golden State:
“It’s pretty cool. I knew playing with him that he was going to be a coach. He always knew what we were doing and why we were doing it. He had some suggestions on different things to do and a lot of them made sense. He’s had a lot of success coaching the Mavericks to the Finals and I liked playing with him and I look forward to playing for him.”
On being a mentor to Derrick Favors at the power forward position:
“I look forward to that. I’ve heard only great things about him as a player and as a person. I’m looking forward to playing with him and all the guys we have here.”
