BROOKLYN—On Friday at Barclays Center, even Trevor Ariza closing in, all length and proper rotation, was not enough to dissuade Deron Williams. There existed enough daylight to shoot, and his first six threes had swished clean.

But Ariza’s arms proved longer than anticipated, and the Nets’ point guard bailed out of the shot, dropping the ball into a half-dribble that earned him a whistle for traveling. Williams turned upcourt, laughing at himself and the unforced error, at the crowd’s delirious disappointment and their unbelievably elevated expectations.

Williams did not leave them wanting for long.

Tonight's performance marked the fourth time Deron Williams has scored 40-or-more points in a single game...With 11 threes, he was one three-pointer shy of the NBA record (12, Donyell Marshall and Kobe Bryant). However, it was a Nets franchise record and career-best. His seven first-quarter threes also represented a franchise mark – in any quarter – and his 33 first-half points matched the Wizards' team total.

Forward Reggie Evans pulled down a career-high 24 rebounds, also scoring 11 points to log his third double-double this season...This was the fourth time Evans has grabbed at least 20 rebounds, tied for most in the league...Overall, the Nets outrebounded the Wizards, 61-44.
